A lot of my autistic online experience is working up the courage to be open about my struggles with the portions I find disabling only to be wildly misunderstood. 🙃 I want to be open about my experiences, but I feel very stuck and therapy didn't help much.

This is going to sound really small, but is a problem I run into OFTEN: If someone is asking for clarification on something, just answer the question. More often than not I've left groups b/c people struggle to answer clarifying questions when I ask them. #SpoonieAuthChat

Vended at Rehoboth Beach Pride this weekend. I also saw my book on the shelf at Browseabout Books for the first time. As a trans person, selling my books in person is important to me b/c its not something a lot of trans authors can do or feel comfortable with.

Image of a table decked out with a rainbow flag. On the right side, two books are displayed. One is titled Sword of the Voivode. The other is Last Wolves of Paris.

On the left is a black sign with the name of the author and prices for the books, along with several colorful zines.A book on a shelf titled, 'Sword of the Voivode'.

I didn't think of myself in gendered terms as a kid (which can also be a thing with Autism) and I was legit shocked when I started going thru female puberty at 12/13. I didn't even know being transgender was an option until I was almost 30. While I didn't have the words, I knew I didn't fit my agab.

I'm always so curious about when trans and nonbinary folks realized what they were. Like, my wife didn't realize she was genderfluid until well into her twenties, but I knew I wasn't a girl or a boy before I was even ten years old.

#BluePitHype Sword of the Voivode is inspired by a LOT of things in little ways, but the Final Fantasy games and anime of the 1990's, books like The Last Unicorn, The Enchanted Forest Chronicles, Discworld and Dragonlance all have impacted how I'm writing Heirs of Finndrigair as a series.

#BluePitHype The first image is an early drawing of Cyril (left) and Daumantas(right), the other two are of Cyril. I tend to sketch or draw character concepts before writing descriptions.

Two men, the one on the left side significantly shorter than the other. The short man has long hair and a goatee. The taller man has horns, pointed ears and short hair.
The tall man is holding a strip of cloth against the shorter man's chest. He says, "I think this color suites you quite well."
The short man responds, 'Uh huh..."
The tall man asks, "Are you listening?"
The short man responds, "Oh...? Of course!"Black and white ink drawing of a man holding a sword, his feet spread wide and his sword held low in front of him.Image of a shirtless man sitting on a counter or table, one hand on the counter to brace himself and the other holding aloft a large wooden beer mug. #BluePitHype Hi! I'm Zeke Caliban, and I write queer fantasy erotica. My inspiration is being bi/demisexual and not realizing it for 20 plus years. I'm here to write what I want to read, which is gentledom Ace people, teasy gay boys, and a lot of fluffy kinks. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

#BluePitHype Laurentius, and Ruslan in the first book represent unhealthy relationships with masculenity and power, and I wanted Cyril to be the foil to typical male - led fantasy stereotypes, while also just being cool. I don't feel like trans characters get to be cool very often

I'm T.G. Joye and I write queer and often trans-focused Fantasy. I started writing b/c there's very little fiction with trans characters over 25. I started my transition at 31, and wanted to create something older trans people might relate to. #BluePitHype

I had a group of people who wanted me to re-write my first novel, about an adult trans man, to be a YA novel even though only one person even read any of it. The reason? They said adult fiction about centered around an adult trans person would never sell.

If you see this, please tell me the worst/most baffling bit of creative feedback you've ever recieved. Mine is still the time somebody told me my aliens had names that were too alien. Not that they were unpronounceable, just that they didn't sound enough like human names.

Please, please, if you're eligible to vote, please vote. I'd rather lose because people voted for other things than because no one voted at all. And please, consider October Daye for Best Series. The poor woman's been through enough. Make me explain her from the Hugo stage.

Unfortunately, it's that time again. :( My disability claim was denied (we're appealing, obviously), but in the meantime I have rent due, as well as my other bills. I'm not even sure if I'll have a place to live after August, so if you have extra to give this month, it would go a long way.

Gabriel Hargrave (he/him)@ghargravewrites.bsky.social · 5mo ago

My therapist finally convinced me to do one of these to help keep me housed while I work towards getting on disability. I HATE asking for help in any capacity, but I also recognize that I can't get well if I don't have a place to live. Any and all help is appreciated! gofund.me/a192a7989

Surprised myself because I do, in fact qualify for SFWA membership at this point. I didn't think I'd earned that much on my books, but my earnings through IngramSpark alone are almost enough by themselves. It isn't much, but if I can grow my catalogue anything is possible.
