I see a very interesting tidbit here: software is most often a (part of) means to reach a goal, so sharing is helping each other reach the goal. Text is a product by itself, so anyone taking it is considered a “thief“. Imagine, if we were to figure a way to focus on the actual impact the text has.

I know many of you have seen this already, but i wanted to meta. As you read the post, stop. And analyze your emotion. if you feel the outrage, urge to correct the obvious nonsense, enlighten the poaster - don’t. You will not convince. They are in terrible mood, for whatever reason…

air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime question though: has *anything* in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten *better*? like, there's *more* stuff, sure, but is any of it *better*?

got AudioMuse-AI setup on my navidrome server so now it can suggest musically similar songs from my library! so it wont go from c418 -> kobaryo also it has this visual map of my library which is really neat

Not to dunk on this but it isn't really true that the Hormuz oil crisis is driving a solar boom. Here's this chart updated to June of China solar exports, showing that the March spike in exports has subsided and was therefore mostly just export tax rebate effects.

Chart from BloombergNEF and SinoImex showing monthly dollar-value exports of solar cells and modules from China, by market, from November 2024 to June 2026. They spiked to $4.5bn in March 2026 because a key China export tax rebate was removed, fell to $3.1bn in April - still high but possibly due to some spillover effects and deadline missing - and then are back to a normal-ish level of $2.2bn in May and $2.5bn in June.

Absolutely unbelievable how solar power has taken off worldwide during the Hormuz oil crisis. You don't have to hand it to him, but Trump may have done more to finally kick off a global civilization of effete librul solar users than anyone else in the West

Sceptre: EasyOCR reimplemented in Rust. EasyOCR is accurate but Python-only (a PyTorch stack). Sceptre matches its output using the same OCR approach (CRAFT detection, gen2 CRNN, CTC over ONNX) and ships as one static binary with no Python.
