Speaking as someone who gave a talk on the CMB spectral distortion mission FOSSIL at NAM last week, I’m not sure your premise is correct. Of course clashing NAM with the Simons Observatory annual meeting didn’t help. Maybe try proposing a CMB session for next year’s NAM?
Another extremely stupid aspect of the cuts is supporting the international obligations towards SKAO while cancelling the UK research network and infrastructure to store and analyze the SKA data. STFC is paying to generate data it won’t be able to make sense of.
