I wanted Tom Steyer to be in the Governor's race, but he's not so I'm gonna vote for Becerra. I don't follow his campaign at all: I'm voting for him because he's not a Republican.

the median midwestern voter loves two things: electing republicans and thwarting republican policy goals via ballot referendum
ahh the slow slide into a close race, I'm sure everyone will be very normal about this
the betting markets are generally a scourge on society, etc etc. but this is basically the one thing they're good at. no not worth it, but it does makes cutting through the noise a lot easier.

candidate recruitment pipelines operate at world of atoms speeds because you need to actually convince human beings to make consequential decisions about their lives, but discourse lives in the instantaneous world of bytes so you get lots of sorta dumb preemptive celebration or despair

You actually don't have to do the "well, you know, I disagree with MAHA but they're right that there are real problems with The System" thing. That's a concession you absolutely do not have to make.
I'm having a difficult time orienting the theoretical contribution of my current project, because it basically boils down to 'this [interesting/unusual thing] can serve as a [under the correct conditions] capture of public sentiment through revealed preferences'
tbh I think that some of the residual bitterness over remote schooling is less about the policy specifics (it was clearly the best choice in 2020 given the information available) and a little more over how self-serving some people's justifications for it got into 2021-2022

I think this was legit an article of contention in Sacramento in the 2000s, something to do with medical licensing and a dispute between general practioners and podiatrists.
