I write about the Oregon State Beavers (www.si.com/college/oregon-state), and Portland Fire (portlandsupporter.com). Proudly ace, disabled, and a diehard Thorns fan #BAON #RCTID.

A tale of two plays: - NDSU's inexperienced quarterback gives up a sack in the two minute drill - On the the next snap, Jacksonville St lines up 3 high, cover 3, and they somehow give up a deep touchdown on a "turkey hole" shot down the sideline. College football, I missed you.

Here's my piece on a legend of Oregon sports broadcasting - former Beavers' radio announcer Darrell Aune - who recently passed away at 83. Current and former play-by-voices of Oregon, Oregon State, and the Portland Trail Blazers all cite Aune as an inspiration. www.si.com/college/oreg...

Darrell Aune, Former Oregon State Radio Voice, Passes Away at 83

Late in the second half of a February 12th 1987 matchup with their hated rivals, the 1986-87 Oregon State men's basketball team seemed destined for defeat. Wi

Beaver Nation, you know I love radio. For nine years I worked for Oregon State radio affiliates in Southern Oregon. I was too young for Darrell Aune. Please, I need your perspective. Share your favorite Darrell Aune stories. What did he mean to you?

Dave Kragthorpe left behind a complicated legacy. His Oregon State teams didn't win much, but his influence is still felt today, in Corvallis and beyond. Kragthorpe passed away yesterday at 93. I wrote about his impactful coaching career for Oregon State Beavers on SI www.si.com/college/oreg...

I've often said, and will say again, surprise is my favorite feeling in sports. All offseason, I thought Maalik Murphy was gonna start for Oregon State. Now, the Beavers will make a change at the game's most important position. www.si.com/college/oreg...

Oregon State Names Braden Atkinson New Starting Quarterback

In perhaps the biggest surprise of the offseason, Oregon State is making a change at quarterback. First reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel, the Beavers are set to

Last night's Portland Fire loss illuminated this team's one, glaring weakness. This offseason, they need to find a center. Megan DiLeo is a solid rotational player. Serah Williams is still learning to play in the W. This team needs help at the rim. www.portlandsupporter.com/p/forty-poin...

Forty Point Frenzy Moves Mystics Past Fire, 105-100

A 31 point night by Shakira Austin - with much of that damage occurring inside the paint - proved decisive.

This is one reason why the Calkins column, and the Canzano column, are so maddening. If you really want to write about transgender women playing sports, this story - bigots poisoning women's sports fandom with astroturfing - is an important story. Why not write about THAT?

huh, how interesting. the two on the right just happen to show up everywhere together including a rally across the country. this all seems very genuine

you do not get a free run as a columnist at a paper and columnists whining about this thinking they can publish whatever they want is a misunderstanding of how this works. there are editors for a reason, they empowered and required to spike bad copy. if you want free reign, go publish on substack

No point in having a columnist if you're spiking columns. This Seattle Times v. Matt Calkins mess blew up like a hand grenade. I'm spilling some tea today. Read:

It is no coincidence that the TERFs punching down on trans people are overwhelmingly white women. It's easier for some minds to maintain the status quo of our society's rigid and backwards race & gender hierarchies, because real reform risks surrendering what little power they have.

Ok I deserve one hour in BlueSky Jail for giving attention to The Bad Opinion Haver but I think it’s very revealing that when asked to talk about how good Olivia Miles is at basketball, Sophie Cunningham’s compliment was “she has the wiggle of a guy”

Heads up, Beaver Nation: State of the Beavs is taking a week off. My car's timing belt snapped while taking my partner home late Saturday night, and we towed the car to her place in Keizer so that she could get home. I don't have a way to record here, sorry. I will be back in my home studio soon.
