If "Death of the Author" means interpreting a text need not conform to the creator's intent, this might be "Death of the Audience," where there is no interpretation to do at all. A reader is not expected (nor encouraged) to find meaning. Consumerist Non-Being, like an anti-zen breathing exercise.

The Patriot, Braveheart, Gladiator---historians have problems with these films. They also assign them in class. They don't say "Forbidden!" They say "You've read what scholarly consensus is. You've seen the film. Now discuss the differences and why they exist." Hell, *Homer* can be critiqued, too.

This kind of take always baffles me. Nolan's film is the biggest movie around, racking in money, and getting glowing reviews (including from academics). If the biggest most popular works can't get critical debate, then what can? Frankly Nolan is probably delighted. It helps the film to have debate

There are precedents for this kind of antisemitism+Islamophobia going back literally a thousand years. When a controversial caliph tore down the church of the holy sepulchre in 1009, some in Europe blamed Jews as putting him up to it. The caliph also went after synagogues. His son reversed course.

In case folks have missed it, the running commentary on the right is that Jews are sending Arab migrants to invade Europe. Because Islamaphobia and antisemitism are always nearby to one another. AND because so many of this hateful conspiracies rely on the antisemitic mythology of Jews as puppeteers.

Chris Pine I had this thought months ago, and I've not changed my mind. Mostly based on his performance in the D&D movie and "Outlaw King" (see gif below). Comedic, thoughtful/clever, heart, appropriately weather-beaten without being grim.

To those who respond, "I would [do X] against them," please know that is what they want. This is persecution-seeking behavior / engagement trolling. The preaching is secondary. They want to go home, tell their community how they were persecuted for God, and remain smugly isolated. I've been there.
