The Cleveland Guardians have designated Gabriel Arias for assignment.

The Giants seemingly played well enough in the middle of the year (roughly .500 ball in June/July) to avoid a 100-loss season. That said, there is a remote possibility that this creeps back up in the final 2 months of the year.

Yes. And Whisenhunt leads the young group of pitchers who various leaders in the org insist need to have opportunities and thus why the team cannot commit to premium free agent talent. Multiple years of this belief that started off as optimistic but now can only be deemed delusional imo.

Whisenhunt has the rest of the season to figure something out, but this is who he's been for so long that I'm not so sure they wouldn't be better off sending him to AAA and having him learn to pitch short relief until rosters expand

Joniel Hernandez (DSL Giants Black) recorded 1 hit in 2 at-bats with 1 walk in a 6-3 loss. His 1 hit was a solo home run, which was his 1st in a Giants uniform.

One interesting detail about new #SFGiants prospect Kaeden Kent. He has 20 steals in 24 chances (83.3% success rate) this season after never stealing more than 4 bases in a college season.

The Giants released reliever Michael Fulmer from their Triple-A affiliate. He had a 2.98 ERA in 42.1 innings for the River Cats. A mild surprise that the Giants did not give him a shot, given the bullpen issues they have had this year.

I spoke to a few folks around the league about the Giants' trade deadline, and all of them highlighted the Joniel Hernandez trade as one they liked. One even called it a great "buy-now" prospect, expecting his stock to only go up over the next couple of years.

The Giants released pitcher Austin Strickland from their High-A roster. Strickland was acquired in the trade that sent Joey Bart to the Pirates. Bart is now with his third team since that trade.

I'd expect a lot of movement with Eugene's pitching staff. The #SFGiants added a lot of pitchers at the High-A level today, including Ramon Marquez, Miguel Mendez, Marty Grair, and Henry Lalane.

The Giants will take half the money owed to Robbie Ray, including half the $1 million assignment bonus, in the trade to San Diego. They get Joniel Hernandez, a 17 year old SS from Cuba who got a $1.4 million bonus in Jan. and RHP Miguel Mendez, who was a top-5 prospect in SD system.

Newest SF Giants RHP Anthony Molina, 24 years old, coming over from the Braves. He has a career 6.89 ERA in the Majors, but all but three of those games came with Colorado; this year he had a 5.40 ERA in three relief big league appearances. He's had a 3.64 ERA in AAA this year.

The #SFGiants went into the trade deadline with 4 expiring contracts, and they have moved 3 so far: Tyler Mahle - Braves Luis Arráez - Phillies Robbie Ray - Padres JT Brubaker is the lone exception with a few hours to go before the deadline.

Osleivis Basabe will probably see a few at-bats at second base, but I'd bet that Nate Furman will get a pretty nice look at second base. Capable defender with good contact skills. Likely a platoon bat, and will need to reach base at a decent rate. Good speed, too.

Oftentimes, teams move prospects at the deadline they are more comfortable with trading, whether that is due to performance, durability, or long-term fit. I'd have to guess that trading Ramon Marquez was probably more painful than the typical prospect moved at the deadline.

The #SFGiants were lighter on pitching depth in the farm system about 30 days ago, and they have bolstered it in a nice way with names like Jackson Flora, Carson Bolemon, Kaden Waechter, and now Ramon Marquez.

Ramon Marquez is on the younger side (20). He has posted a 1.68 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 14.2 K/9, and a 4.89 SO/W rate across 2 levels in the lower minors. Helathy fastball velo with sinker. Throws a slider and changeup as well.

New #SFGiants prospect Ramon Marquez has the 6th-highest strikeout rate in the minors (Min. 50 IP) at 14.2 K/9. He is just behind Seth Hernandez (14.4 K/9), who is considered one of the best pitching prospects in baseball.

That feels like a nice return for 2 months of Luis Arráez plus Caleb Kilian, whom the Giants brought in on a minor league deal in the winter.
