In 1808 one of the few instances of martial law was declared in Australia, after the military overthrew the government in response to news that they would no longer be paid in alcohol. The military junta ruled the colony for 6 months, with their main impact being the opening of 90 new liquor stores

The centre of Sydney city hosts a very unusual building - a train station for the dead. The churchesque 'Mortuary Station' was used to carry the deceased to a far off cemetery after the city ran out of space, until cars became commonplace, after which it was converted into a pancake restaurant.

Also the 'Imperial British Conservative Party’ initially from NZ, also ran in Australia. The candidate for the Seat of Melbourne was James Ferrari who would put as his occupation “Wizard Class III’ and turn up at the booths on election day in full wizard costume.

2015: New Zealand held a vote to change their flag due to its similarity to Australia's, leading to the submission of the iconic 'Lazer Kiwi' flag. Designer Lucy Gray said her inspiration was that "Australia has a lot of animals that can kill you, so New Zealand should get one too"
