Also I rarely talk about my professorship but I got promoted starting this fall and I am ENORMOUSLY grateful for this! Starting my SEVENTH (!!) year teaching in the next month, now at the rank of *Associate* Professor!

I think I'm just going to start adding "start a new gig" to my creative process because I never feel like I want to make ANYTHING until I suddenly start a new gig! (I started a new small job doing some marketing art for a new animated movie this week and I am grateful!)

Got a new little gig and my physical therapist told me he does not recommend back surgery right now (which has been on the table for the past 6 weeks), so I’m going to take these small wins and celebrate a little tonight

I am realizing that my small dog may not actually be properly potty trained…? She’s a 5-6 y/o rescue chihuahua mix and I’ve had her for 3+ years, but any time I would let her out it was when my big dog asked. Now that he’s gone I don’t think she knows to ask to go out, so we keep finding puddles 🫠

This summer has been incredibly hard for me both physically and emotionally but I have to say I feel so supported by my friends and community, and for that, I am grateful.

I said goodbye to my best friend this morning. I know we are lucky and got 15 years together and a peaceful end at home in the backyard among the flowers, but this grief is still one of the hardest things I’ve ever dealt with. I’ll love you forever, Kobie

I lost my childhood cat when she was about 16, and I had my (now 15+ year) dog to cope. Now I have a human toddler. Every “pet” feels like an evolution in a way, and I can’t help but feel sad that they aren’t around to experience one another for longer.

It’s so frustrating to see every creative industry in shambles right now because it’s not for lack of shows, movies, games, books, comics, etc making money. People are hungry for human made art! The greed of others is killing our creative careers.

Right now the world is full of people who want to code and write and paint and film stuff and people who want to play and read and look at and watch stuff and nobody is allowed to do any of that because some unrelated third guy isn't making enough money off the deal

I am really struggling to make things this summer. I think everything I’m going through merits a slow down in creativity — major back injury (probably requiring surgery), likely end of life of my 15+ year canine companion, toddler under 2 y/o… yet I still feel frustrated that I haven’t made more.

If anyone is having trouble finding/strengthening friendships as an adult, joining monthly meet ups is the answer. These make up almost the entirety of my social calendar now! I have a dinner club, a book club, a figure drawing club. It’s the best. If you’re lonely, join a club!!

I don’t know why it took me so long to realize that laying in bed watching a movie on my iPad with earbuds in is the superior way to watch a movie for my exhausted evening ADD brain.
