I switched from using tiktok to using IG to watch short form video (not a huge improvement, but I dunno, something?) and two things I've noticed. 1) There are WAY fewer ads. Tiktok would give me one every two or three videos and IG only gives them to me after like- half an hour of scrolling

I've been seeing more and more Ai art on IG that looks really good and convincing. Whenever the carousel is a few too many images deep, I start to wonder and I've mostly always been right. It makes me sad when I liked something but I have no idea whose art style it actually is.
Using Ai as a “reference” sucks because it’s a dead end to learning and curiosity. There are more artists and writers whose work I can be inspired by and I can always dig deeper into them to learn more, but Ai flattens it to the result with no way to find out what parts were stolen from who.

As an artist, I don't care about nor want to look at ai slop, and that makes ai dudes mad. I think it's because they've never actually experienced putting art out into the world before. Sometimes people just don't wanna look at your shit and there's nothing you can do about it.
I started reading East of Eden and I think it's the first "classic" I've picked up since High School. I can't help think that Steinbeck couldn't even imagine the world we are living in now, but that his words are still beautiful to our modern ears.
