Proud that CEIR worked to bring election officials from all over the country, of both parties, to inform the Supreme Court of the damage and chaos to elections that the president’s unconstitutional power grab would bring. States run elections, and as we’ve seen in the primaries, they run them well.

The Center for Election Innovation & Research (CEIR)@electioninnov.bsky.social · 7h ago

CEIR, alongside partner organizations, #electionofficials, and experts urged #SCOTUS this week to block President Trump's executive order on voter citizenship verification and #mailvoting from taking effect.

"These numbers, until they're backed up by any kind of clear, transparent methodology, should be considered made up. There's nothing the states can do with the information in the letter, and [the WH] just plans to use this to amplify further disinformation about the election process," Becker said.

Trump's claims of 250,000 non-U.S. citizens on voter rolls leave some states baffled

Trump officials say they found 250,000 noncitizens on voter rolls in just four states. Those states don't know where the numbers came from, and some worry what the claims may portend for the midterms.

DOJ used to be able to go decades, maybe forever, without making an admission like this. Now, it's just a day that ends in "Y". The credibility the DOJ used to have, built over years hiring the best lawyers, training them well, and instilling in them the duty to surpass ethical standards, is gone.

For nearly an hour during the hearing, Judge Arun Subramanian grilled DOJ attorneys over their handling of the subpoenas and accompanying docs. DOJ admitted that it made statements that were “not correct” in its filings to the magistrate judge, but claimed the errors were “inadvertent.”

On FTN, @beckerdavidj.bsky.social shreds Trump's BS about election security. "Hardly a week goes by where someone in this administration doesn't threaten election officials with arrests. This week we had at least two prominent administration officials doing that. It's become almost a running joke."

The DOJ just lost its 14th (VA) and 15th (NM) cases seeking to seize protected and sensitive voter data from the states. The judges here were Trump- and Bush-appointees. The DOJ has won ZERO of these cases. They are 0-15. If they were the Mets, their manager would be fired.

The DOJ just lost its 13th straight case (against zero wins) in WV, in its attempt to seize sensitive voter data (DL, SSN, DOB) from the states. Of the 13 cases, 7 were decided by R judges, and FIVE of those were Trump appointees. This is an unprecedented record of defeat for the DOJ.

BREAKING: Federal judge finds that Trump's IRS suit was improper because Trump controlled both sides of the litigation. Judge Kathleen Williams also sanctions Trump's lawyers, issues monetary sanctions, and harshly criticizes DOJ's "untenable" conduct. More to come at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com

The Parties used the existence of federal litigation as a means of conferring legitimacy upon a course of action that they were unwilling to subject to judicial review.
The context of the "settlement," the relationships of the people involved in negotiating and approving it, the ethical implications of their conduct, and the Parties' swift efforts to
dismiss this case after the Court raised fundamental jurisdictional questions all support this conclusion. Accordingly, the Court expressly finds that Plaintiffs acted in bad faith.
See Sofaly v. Portfolio Recovery Assocs., LLC, 155 F.4th 289, 295 (3d Cir. 2025) (monetary sanctions were proper under the court's inherent power where the lawyers acted in bad faith and committed fraud on the court by using "their clients to bring
contrived lawsuits"). That finding is enough to invoke the Court's inherent authority. See JTR Enter., LLC V. Columbian Emeralds, 697 F. App'x 976, 986 (11th Cir. 2017) ("The key to invoking a court's inherent power to sanction is a finding of bad faith.") (citation

🧵 Yesterday, the President fired the remaining 3 (of 4) commissioners on the independent, bipartisan Election Assistance Commission. While this is another troubling attempt to expand powers beyond that the constitution may grant, it actually will have very little, if any, impact on the election. /1

Another point here. We don't need to "transition to paper ballots." We HAVE paper ballots, in EVERY state (except Louisiana)! 98% of all Americans vote on auditable, recountable, verifiable paper, and once LA transitions (probably by 2028), it'll be effectively 100%, which is a good thing.

Former DOJ lawyer David Becker said this effort to prosecute election officials is unprecedented: "It's a rather transparent attempt at bullying and it's kind of reflective of the panic that is being felt at the DOJ right now."
