Chinese viral AI videos are turning foreigners into villains, flooding Chinese social media. They depict foreigners as threats to China’s social, moral, and national order. Strong, confident Chinese people confront, violently beat, and humiliate them in defense of their country. See more below🧵

There are a lot of people who were capable of being open-minded when Arabs and Muslims were simply the *subject* of US policy but whose response to those communities having an active role in American politics on par with other ethnic and faith groups has been to totally lose their shit.

I'ts hard to escape the impression that a certain faction of the Democratic Party just straight up does not believe that Arabs specifically -- and perhaps Muslims generally -- have a place as active players in American politics

I've said this before, but companies like Anthropic can try to "Win the AI Race" TM or they can be more careful/thoughtful about the technology they're building, but it is quite literally impossible to do both. They've already decided the goal is industry dominance, not safe or benign AI.

The problem with What Should We Have Done About COVID discourse is that it’s all Monday morning quarterbacking with the much better information we have now compared to then, and is about what we should have done now that we know instead of how we should have acted with imperfect information then

Another example of the problem with the fixation with Trump’s putative emotions: here a story about the Trump administration’s corruption, incompetence, and venality is framed as one about Trump’s “wrath.” www.nytimes.com/2026/08/01/u...

In Dropping Reflecting Pool Case, Pirro Draws Trump’s Wrath

Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. attorney in Washington, blamed shoddy construction, contradicting President Trump’s pet theory. Mr. Trump said he disagreed “100%” with her.

Every left of center person needs to internalize the fact that most legacy outlets are now captured by fascist billionaires. These institutions are coasting off their previous goodwill and will reporting. But they are now propaganda outlets whose primary goal is to aid the Republican Party.

Brazil has denied visas to two senior State Department officials that the Trump administration planned to dispatch on a mission to cast doubt on the fairness and integrity of the country’s electoral system before Brazil’s presidential election this fall.
