🚨NEW🚨: Ten unions call for Andy Burnham to oppose the war on Iran & stop British bases being used to launch US air strikes. The unions argue that the “devastating, illegal war” is a catastrophe for the Middle East & that it directly undermines Burnham’s cost of living agenda.

I wrote about Heathrow expansion and Labour's 'number one mission' of economic growth (not climate catastrophe, not threadbare public services, not child poverty but...) Now the govt's own figures suggest related growth would be derisory, which is no surprise. www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/ja...

This episode of "Today" desperately needs a historian of policing, to explain why things like anti-racism training were introduced in the first place. This wasn't some departure from a world in which the police treated everyone the same. It was an attempt to bring that world fractionally closer.

Greg Bovino and the head of New York's Young Republicans were in Portugal this weekend for a neo-fascist summit on ethnic cleansing. So why didn't the press cover it? My latest for @theredoubt.net, on extremism, antisemitism and media double standards: www.theredoubt.net/why-did-the-...

Why did the press ignore a gathering of the world's leading fascists?

Right-wing extremism is going mainstream, but it's not getting the coverage.

here's one of those insane, horrible connections of the contemporary era the primary liaison between the UAE and the genocidaires in the RSF over this time has been Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan the owner of Manchester City football club

Not so long ago I was told Drax provided 'green jobs' at its biofuel (tree-burning) power plant. They were then getting £2m EVERY DAY in govt subsidies & that was without CCS. Now subsidies are due to end they're turning to that other well-known job creator & climate change fixer - data centres!

Many govts hope capturing carbon from power plants burning wood will cause "negative emissions." New Nature Sust. paper today finds this likely increases emissions for decades, generates no negative emissions within 150 years, and increase electricity costs ~3.5-fold. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
