Sorry but no, it is in fact notable that the US is doing something only very extremist regimes do. To willingly abandon “this isn’t who we are” as a response is to throw away a very powerful rhetorical weapon.

I’m really not sure about the gotcha being that the moral difference lies in the public spectacle and not in the violence conducted by the state. America was not better than any of these other states just because they didn’t broadcast their executions.
