Just seen that the Elemental Analysis service at London Met is closing! This is devastating for us UK inorganic synthesists. They have been such a great, reliable service. @londonmetuni.bsky.social #chemsky

It was so good to have @andrealaybourn.bsky.social to visit us at NTU chemistry, her seminar was a masterclass on all things microwave and flow. @ntunews.bsky.social #chemsky
This is a very good factual description of the risks to the School of Chemistry at University of Nottingham if the management doesn't pull back from the devastating announced cuts to staff. The University College Union has put forward a counter proposal that does not require drastic cuts to staff.
I've tried to collate the public data on Nottingham's teaching to help everyone make some noise about the proposed redundancies. Please sign the petition if you feel able. www.michaeloneill.org/blog-1/2026/5/16/nottingham-redundancies-briefing-data

Things have got bad in UK HE when a department like Leicester Chemistry is facing these measures. Solidarity to all the staff picketing today.
I don’t want to be on a picket line today. I’d rather be teaching my students or in the lab with @kilpatrickgroup.bsky.social - not standing in the rain outside my own workplace. But the threat of compulsory redundancies and cuts to @leicesterchem.bsky.social 🇬🇧🥈leaves us no real choice.
"We sat down and ate the pears from the tree before the rain came." Preschool sounds amazing. Of course, this bucolic scene probably involved a lot more spit, thrown pears and chaos than suggested.
Today is International Non-Binary People's Day and the first day of Non-Binary Awareness Week The day was first celebrated in 2012, started by Katje van Loon. The date was chosen for being precisely midway between International Women's Day and International Men's Day.
Good to see you today @sandykilla.bsky.social, can't stop laughing at this photo where it looks like I'm your smaller second head
Fun trip up to Nottingham Trent to visit @benjaminchem.bsky.social & lab!
I am reminded this week of the Ben Elton novel Blind Faith, which, over a decade ago, seemed like one of the more far fetched dystopian novels I'd read. I don't think I'd feel so complacent, if I read it again. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_F...

Why did Word have to make the painful process of grant writing even more excruciating by changing the keyboard shortcuts for subscript and superscript? Chemists everywhere are surely cursing as loudly as me. #chemsky
Happy #pride month! We believe that chemistry is for everyone. In the face of opposition that threatens the progress we've made, it's never been more important for us to promote equality of opportunities and make chemistry as open, inclusive and diverse as it should be: buff.ly/1dShs0l #ChemSky
