Folks struggling to make it as indies should probably read this: klangmag.co/lifers-dayjo... Also he only mentions rich kids and day jobbers, but there's also "has a spouse with a good job", "their parent died and left them just enough to get ahead" and "managed to pay off house so don't have rent"

Written by Max Alper Last year, a private student of mine had gotten in touch with me via email at around 3 AM. I had known this student for years prior, as they were in one of the earliest college c...

Posting all the illustrations I did specially for the Steam trading cards cause I really like how they came out and I don't know how many people even KNEW that clicking on trading cards shows a full-on 1920x1080 image. I sure as hell didn't until I needed to draw them!

okay, see, this is what AI learning should've been used for to begin with Like Cascadeur, the dataset the AI was trained on was completely in-house, and when you run it, it'll be done locally on your own pc using your graphics card. Humans still have to do the damn job as well. See? ugh
I played Magic: The Gathering for the first time over the weekend, and my wallet shuddered
was pleased there were folks who liked the pig so much they were jumping over it instead of killing it lol

I was tired of having lots of mini rants about AI art, why it's aesthetically bad, and the larger moral issues with it. So I plopped them all here. Bit of a long read but hopefully useful to someone. www.patreon.com/posts/no-you...

The other part of the “how do I get people to see my art” is make friends with people and talk to them and be each other’s cheerleaders and share each other’s stuff. I think @bombsfall.bsky.social put it best with “make art, make money, help other people do the same”
Ultimately, there is more to success than just chasing popular trends. If you take a follow-the-pack mentality, you’ll always be outclassed by people who *genuinely and sincerely* LIKE the trend you’re trying to chase and your voice will get lost in an ocean of other marketable trend chasers
If you figure out what the thing that makes you happiest is, you will make it with such unparalleled enthusiasm that it will be impossible for people not to notice in a way that will be so much more memorable than treating yourself like a branded product before you figure out who you are.
My advice to young artists is that ESPECIALLY as a young artist you have so much to learn about yourself and the world and what you like about the process and what your favourite things are, and if you do a little bit of everything you will figure out what you love more than anything else
Lot of difficult and unexpected things these last few months. And a lot of good things, too!
some artwork I did for Cass, a team Lithobreakers Jam project from earlier this year! (sorry 4 spoilerssss)
