I can't stress this enough: Your local library. You would be amazed how many different groups, clubs, and orgs use your local library for holding events, publicity, teaching classes, or just a communal space. Libraries have never been more tech savvy. Go to their website. Look on their calendar.

This last weekend of WRC races was fuckin crazy I'm just glad everyone survived, but fuck I hope Oliver's back is ok (though i am really glad the Finnish kid got the hometown win, hell yeah Sami!) Very weird to finally have a Sport I watch enough to root for people in (I am a Taka fan 😭)

who specifically is "taking responsibility for their correctness" tho. i feel like it would be a lot more reassuring to hear that one or more specific math understanders who work at openai were taking responsibility for their correctness than just the company as a gestalt

Responsibility to the mathematical community The emergence of systems capable of contributing to mathematical research raises questions that cannot be answered by a technology company alone. There are many views as to the role of AI in mathematics, and we have deep respect and understanding for those concerned with its impact, including the signers of the Leiden declaration on AI and Mathematics⁠(opens in a new window). We believe attribution should honestly reflect how a result was produced: claiming human authorship for a proof generated entirely by an AI system would misrepresent both the system’s contribution and the nature of genuine human intellectual work. We helped prepare the manuscripts and formalize the proofs in Lean, and we take responsibility for their correctness, while the mathematical arguments themselves were generated by our system. We hope the mathematical community will engage deeply with these results, place them in context, and bring the ideas behind them to life through new research and discovery.

Today I learned that baby cranes are called "colts" because their legs are so long and they can run around like idiots shortly after hatching. This is delightful, I enjoy knowing this.

So I've loaded up Dragon Dogma 2 multiple times now thinking I'll Finally Beat This and gods the end is such a slog 😭 I'm to the island, already fought the big giant, I TINK I just need to find the dragon? I have the blade? But the island sucks so bad and all the fights on it are slogs ugghhhh

Does Godot have a decent way of rotating to face something but, slowly, at a fixed rate, that won't overshoot? I don't mean a coroutine or a yield, I just mean a single function that takes target and speed and gets you there without overshoot Like this works great but, I feel very dirty doing it 😭

Godot source, the key bit at the end where I do a lookat at (cur-pos + (forward z * 20 + toward-target).normalized Which works out to an ease, especially if done in a fixed step update

It really really really bugs me how many people simply do not understand what it means when the government tries to convict you even IF THEY FAIL TO DO IT. Do you know how many thousands of dollars in legal fees it costs? You will most likely lose your job. You might lose your home.

Yup. I've said before how there is no such thing as an "AI detector." All they do is check if a writing sample is similar to AI source training material, or AI human evaluators. Source material is from "authors, writers, and professors" Human eval is "Africans that speak English better than you"🤷🏿‍♂️

A Nigerian born author, Jerry Falade, had his $2.4M book deal pulled because he was accused of using AI. There is unavoidable optics of a Black man writing a brilliant novel that people assume must have been written by AI. However the broader issue is we can’t trust any writing isn’t AI generated.
