"transforming Game Pass into a bustling indie library could work to both rapidly shrink the costs of running the service, as well as retain more subscribers" IMO the primary reason Game Pass failed to hit its subscriber targets is because the mass market simply does not care to play lots of games.
Game Pass Was Supposed To Be the Netflix-Style All-You-Can-Play Subscription That Would Save Xbox – Instead, It’s Killing the Company
Game Pass was supposed to be the all-you-can-play subscription service that put Xbox on top after a disastrous generation. Instead, it's a failure that's threatening to ruin the company.

I’ll allow myself a mini-crashout, since I’m still a bit high from anaesthesia So every AAA game is Duke Nukem Forever now, right? Like, why can’t a multi-bajillion dollar company make “a” Prince of Persia? You guys used to crank out one of these a year 20 years ago

PSA on the topic of physical games.. if you have a Gameboy collection, and any games require a AA battery for some neat features like rumble (example: Perfect Dark GBC), you might want to go and check your cart and remove the battery and hope it's not completely inundated with battery acid
Less than a week away from #Kickstarter! 🎉 Feels surreal!🔥 My first game was a 'labor of love' that took over 6 years. This one gained momentum faster, and I believe the artists truly outdid their past work! #indiegame #rpg #pixelart www.kickstarter.com/projects/rapturousstudio/robot-rhapsody

What was the contingency plan here when they put all this money on the line. Was there one? The thing that really gets to me is how they seem to treat this creative talent as entirely expendable. Miss me with the "that's just business!" counterpoint!
It's messed up. A giant company with massive resources, and no real clear idea what it's doing, can buy up a ton of talented studios to gamble them on an uncertain business strategy. And then when the strategy fails, those studios and that talent just gets.. tossed out? That's the play? Jesus.
The cruelest part of this Xbox bloodbath? More than 1,200 job cuts are still looming, and nobody knows when they will happen or who will be impacted. This week's column: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
Delayed Xbox Layoffs Leave Employees Scared And Nervous
Xbox cut 1,600 jobs this week and plans to cut another 1,600 over the next 12 months, leaving remaining staff on tenterhooks

Man, killing id Software is akin to Sony shutting down Insomnic or Santa Monica. Nintendo killing off EAD. Disney closing Pixar.
I keep seeing the posts but is there a source for the news that id software will be (forced to) use Unreal Engine going forward? Or is it kind of a speculation because Microsoft gutted that legendarily awesome studio and so it is assumed that such a forced error would be Microsoft-worthy
Maybe I should start focusing more on buying DRM-free PC games and storing them on my NAS OH WAIT hdd prices have skyrocketed in price too awesome
There was a while, long ago, I thought AAA publishers would continue to *embrace* physical copies because it meant they could sell $100+ Collector's Editions of stuff and make even better profit margins; and thus encourage the continued production of physical games. As an added revenue source.
When I designed the assets for physical copies of Cosmic Star Heroine for PS4 & Vita, I made the manuals as big as allowable per Sony. They hold the record for the most pages of a packed-in manual for both systems at 76! (it's technically a tie with Summon Night 6 iirc). I love doing this stuff!
And while business-wise discs may matter little to AAA publishers, indies often pour love into their physical releases and however niche the sales there-of may be, it matters a LOT more to smaller devs/publishers!
Been away from the PC for a while, but the news about Sony discontinuing disc production is a disheartening one. There's a lot of good reasons to buy a disc, with the data fully playable on it, and to own it! I love my game collection!

When MS started out with the OG Xbox, a prevailing line of thought was "MS has vast resources, they'll lose money now to establish themselves, then make a fortune once they're a major player." Quarter of a century later and it still feels like they haven't figured out how they're going to do this.
We need to compete, let's buy studios. We're struggling to compete, let's close studios.

I made a game where you delve into your psyche and must escape from a never-ending dream. - Confront your nightmares via turn-based combat - Explore a stunning dreamworld - Experience a surreal, deeply personal narrative It's called She Dreams Elsewhere, and it's coming soon~
It doesn't matter how good your game is; if there's a mismatch between player expectations and player experience, it will hurt your reviews a lot.
OG Rayman Legends has a beautiful timeless painterly look and the remake looks nicely detailed but is arguably less readable with weird pop-in. Anyway the original is all on the disc/cart straight playable while the new one requires an internet connection/download to play it, so there's that too!
Was there ever a final consensus on whether it's better to play Until Dawn (PS4) or the PS5 remake?
I am proud to be part of the Infinite Alliance team! A collaboration project of NUMEROUS indie JRPG titles of more than 18 characters (+giant robot, +dragon) fighting together to save the day!💜 Arriving in the near future (exact date TBD) – I'll def be posting about it again.[1/2]
