A lot of the “kids online safety” proponents actually are anti-LGBTQ extremists and fundamentalists who want kids to have less freedom and don’t care if that actually makes them tremendously less safe too

Australian Christian Lobby angling at, i guess, a plebiscite on gender with the line "Australians had a say on changing the definition of marriage, why not this" forgetting that one of those things is a state function and the other is inherent to the person. You don't actually get a say on my gender

Also: if you must, for some reason, frame your message around distraction, it is *entirely possible* to do this without minimising the issue. "National are so desperate to distract NZers from their litany of failures that they're throwing trans people under the bus and we won't stand for it"

Pro-tip for any budding politicians: Saying "It's a distraction" when your opponents begin a policy directly targeting a minority, one which will reverse your own governments gains for that minority, tells everyone in or supportive of that minority that you didn't give a fuck then and you don't now.

It’s deeply shameful for National and Act to vote for the NZF anti-trans bill tonight. Clearly they’d rather the limited resources of govt be used on this culture war nonsense that nobody wants rather than the things that New Zealanders actually need from them.

Every single problem in the public service is a result of government cost-cutting and prioritising optics, spin and ideology over just spending the money to do the job properly, which would have the benefit of making everyone's lives better but on the other hand doesn't make rich people richer

Sir, another graduation ceremony in which the students booed AI has dropped. "College graduates were pissed after their school used AI to announce graduates’ names and missed hundreds of names" (via @/FearedBuck on Twitter)

this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive. when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.

Please please please share this post. There is some bizarre magic spell on the words "pay equity" that makes people's eyes glaze over but there's nothing boring about working women being robbed of BILLIONS of dollars by the chaos coalition

Government's treatment of women in Aotearoa goes to the United Nations

One year after legislation killed existing pay equity claims and basically ended the opportunity to bring new claims, the government is being taken to the United Nations. It's a huge deal. The team ...

It's amazing that nobody will understand this: They don't think. They don't remember. They have no cognition. They're pattern matching systems that produce answer-shaped responses. This is no different that giving a script admin privileges, except this script is rewritten on the fly.

Here we go again: AI deletes entire company database and all backups in 9 seconds, then cheerfully admits 'I violated every principle I was given'

"If you pay for car airbags and they don’t deploy because they don’t exist is that your fault because you got in the accident?"

Yes, Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term “dark matter” which is impressive, but he also coined the term “spherical bastard” to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.
