Voters should judge this, yes. But IMO elections can't substitute the Speaker’s duty to apply Parliament’s rules fairly (as you've noted). If Brownlee knowingly permits one standard for Peters and another for others, Parliament normalises impunity where it should model equality before its own rules.
Open and free for all. Enrolment of 18-24 year olds for Nov 7 election collapses to 53% from 70%; Over 200,000 young people not enrolled = more than voted NZ First in 2023; Auckland Council vote turnout under 20% for young. #nzpol open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...

In times like these, it’s important to pay attention to the grand unifying narratives ideas are hooking on to. Like that children are there to be controlled by adults, like babies and birth are commodities to be controlled by the state, like citizenship is a state more valuable than non-citizenship.
I can’t find any simpler way of saying what I need to say than: when you vote, this election? Think of the children. All of them; explicitly the children you can not help in person. Other people’s children. Vote for them? 🙏
Going to restate this with regard to ACT's "beating naughty children" policy, which has nothing to do with what children, parents or teachers want, and everything to do with making insecure old white men feel like they're still lords of the universe despite contributing nothing of value to society
Mostly 50+ year old men who "don't recognise their country anymore" and twentysomething year old men who in theory would have big families if they could only find a submissive tradwife
As an adult teacher I have been punched, kicked, spat at, hit by a chair, bitten by children between the ages of 5 and 12. Children. These are children. The government should not empower teachers, who have in loco parentis duties of care for these children, to use physical force at any point.
This policy would directly lead to physical abuse of disabled and neurodivergent children. Tell your friends. I'm absolutely serious.
ACT candidate Paul Henry unveils plan to let teachers use 'reasonable force' on 'little shits'
Women! Your job is Make Babies. Winston Peters will pay you 5k tax free per year for the first three years of three babies lives! The party of "defending women" needs you to Make Babies to replace the population. Only open to Citizens. No foreigns.
i wanna know which extremely online lawyer made sure to require the post be pinned. genius.
Ah, this warms the cockles of my cold, dead heart. Wait til you see the price a TERF had to pay for lying about a trans woman. "...also be required to publish a court-approved apology that must remain pinned on their social media channels for three months" www.lgbtqnation.com/2026/07/an-a...
I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them
Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

Birth incentivisation polices have never worked anywhere, but of course the target audience for this policy isn't actually perspective parents, it's people who are worried that other groups aren't having enough (white) babies www.thepost.co.nz/politics/361... Crossposted with @openvibe.social
FAO Winston Peters though of course he'd insist he said "citizens" not "white" so it's magically not racist
Are you worried about falling birthrates? Here's 5 simple tips! 1. Quick racism check, are you actually just worried about *white* birthrates? Maybe stop that 2. More parental leave 3. Make public spaces and services safer for parents 4. Rent: too damn high 5. No seriously do the racism check again
Yeah it costs us so much. A switch from billing through iOS to browser is a big boost to the Patreons you support.
I'm begging you not to use apple products. This shit is devastating to creators like me
Luxon's "I was out there building a kick-arse business" just galls me so much. Bro you were employed by a couple of gigantic inefficient enterprises. You did not build a pie shop or a landscaping business. You did not build a tech startup.
There's a lot to dunk on with "AI data centres are our economic future" stories but honestly the one that infuriates me is the "they create jobs!!!!!" line, because it's always like an infomercial with a lot of fine print at the bottom.
Here's Mitchell's article, paywalled, but consider a subscription to support this kind of journalism. If that's not doable, if your library has PressReader you can log in with your library card and read it online as it appeared in print (where it was a full page) www.thepress.co.nz/nz-news/3610...

Every story about a plagiarism chatbot "escaping containment" and "hacking other companies" is just the old "computer, say 'I am alive'" meme with extra steps The AI bros are simultaneously trying to sell you a product AND convinced they're building God, why would you believe anything they say
The only documentary I want to see about Tom Phillips abducting his children is one that indisputably spells out how easily and how often a man's obvious abuse and red flags are made invisible by the phrase "I heard his ex is a crazy b****"
Look this “oh sorry you’re talking to my leadersona not the minister” nonsense is getting farcical. I understand very well the separation of different capacities but surely it was never meant to be used solely to dodge accountability as it has been this year.
Last night, Women in Sport Aotearoa, alongside InsideOut and the Clare Foundation launched a new toolkit for community sports providers to support the participation of transgender and nonbinary people in sport. Filling the gap created by the deletion of the previous guidance by the Minister of Sport
So much here, but the point that stood out to me is that stupid Netflix documentary that she refused to engage with (good on her). Everyone in NZ should boycot that shit. #nzpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/crime-a...

For most people, the Tom Phillips case began when he first disappeared with his children into the bush in 2021 and ended when he was shot dead by police last year.

I need someone to explain to me in small words exactly what the hell is going on in the Labour Party right now (and the Greens should run this photo on a loop until election day)
Labour leadership’s no show at union-backed event a ‘huge own goal’ say organisers
A fired up crowd of 1400 at a political pledge event in Auckland was disappointed by the political no-shows, but Labour says there appeared to be some miscommunication.

I think if you ask the question "Why are the free speech union suddenly so involved in the medical council?" and don't reference their long weird campaign against professional bodies having codes of conduct to stop people being bigots or the attempt to takeover Internet NZ, then you aren't trying.
Nobody wants predictive data models to stop working for the people in medicine. Or translating ancient Pompeii texts. Or the other ways we were already using it. We want it to stop replacing workers, killing the environment, and stealing from artists. Hope that clarifies.
the fact this happened should rule her out all over again and have her removed from the role
Great way for the new appointee to the Medical Council to let her colleagues and the people she's meant to be overseeing that if ANYTHING doesn't go her way she will go straight to the Free Speech Union to put out a press release. Real professional behaviour.
Wrote two lines of Javascript to make news websites actually look like what they *feel* like to me
What FSU are doing is emailing their people to only vote for their candidates based on the FSU x Hobson's Pledge misinformation campaign about the constitution of INZ that has been in place trouble free for about a year now. That's the problem here.
