Software engineer. Inventor of the toast sandwich.

After grilling Zach Polanski, Newsnight @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social now interrupting the follow-up discussion every 30 secs to read out texts from Farage, Jenrick et al verbatim & without scrutiny, like some kind of Reform stenography service. I think I just witnessed the death of British journalism.

Everyone saying "America needs to wake up and act before it's too late" is missing the fact that it's already too late. Checks and balances are long gone. "A republic... If you can keep it" (*spoiler alert* they couldn't)

No they can't. Trump is not the start of America's slide into fascist autocracy, he's the last piece of the puzzle. They spent years capturing the legislative and judicial branches. To think maga congress and maga SCOTUS will step in to stop him is deluded.

All it takes is for the right (i.e. wrong) person to whisper in his ear and he presses the big red button. The decaying mush where Grandpa Grocery's demented brain used to be is all that stands between us and a global nuclear apocalypse. Why isn't everyone terrified by this fact??

"The White House has fired at least three National Security Council staffers ... The firings came after Laura Loomer, the far-right activist ..., urged President Donald Trump during a Wednesday meeting to get rid of several members of his National Security Council staff."

Historic quotes by US presidents: "Perseverance and spirit have done wonders in all ages." "A house divided against itself cannot stand" "A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on." "Groceries. It's a bag with different things in it."

Ugh. Just look at this band of v dismal Tories, grabbing the stage at the farmers’ “rally”. The same people who limited our rights to protest, betrayed farmers with their Brexit lies and then shafted them with their idiotic replacement trade deals. A photo op of pure hypocrisy and bullshit concern.

Photo of Chris Philp, Esther Mcvey, Victoria Atkins, Kemi Badenoch, Helen Whatley and Priti Patel at the farmers protest, all grinning.

Apparently, robust political discourse* is no longer tolerated in "the town square of free speech", as of the morning after the night before. So here I am. Hi. Who should I follow? *I criticized Elmo's friend, it made him sad 🙁
