This is such an incredible time to be a curious person.

The AI conversation has too many prophets and not enough practitioners, and the prophecy is not only on one side.

Every useful AI session starts with the same ritual: explain who you are, what you're working on, what tools to use, what boundaries to respect, and what weird project-specific one-offs keep the model from handing you boilerplate. Then, a few days later, you do it again.

So Claude Mythos was, indeed, not marketing hype. Remember this is a general purpose model that just happens to be good at finding exploits because good models are good at lots of things. Expect similar from OpenAI & Google. And from open models in 8 months. hacks.mozilla.org/2026/05/behi...

What I imagine Microsoft to be, right now

A month ago I burned $400 on AI inference in an afternoon. $200 Anthropic, $200 Google, $100 OpenAI — direct API rates, less than 3 hours. This week's news cycle suggests I was just early.

Years ago at Sun I worked in the Jini stack, which had bilateral capability discovery as a substrate primitive: everything announced what it provided, everything declared what it needed, the substrate mated consumers to providers. The idea has stayed with me.

Shipped the first real Rust commit for DYFJ today. ~200 lines that lock in a stance: the database, not the language, owns the schema. Most agent frameworks define memory/event shapes as Python or TS classes and call those the contract. They're not. The data is the contract.

Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.
