Agreed. Listen, I know the numbers aren't "big numbers." I know it was razor thin. But imagine if AIPAC didn't dump $30 million into oppositional stuff? How many millions does 1% of the electorate cost to flat-out buy? I know there's no solid answer there, and that's my point.

@abdulelsayed.bsky.social triumphing over something like $60 million, $32-ish million of it AIPAC money, is not a "narrow" victory, it's a people's earthquake. This kind of spending is oligarchy in action, to smother democracy through its formal channels, and is getting normalized. Still he won.

Sen. Bernie Sanders calls Abdul El-Sayed's win "one of most extraordinary victories in modern American political history." "He withstood $70M of outside funding. He was outspent 9-to-1," he says. Plus establishment Dems in MI and DC opposed him. "Never heard" of a major candidate overcoming that.

This was driven home when I was canvassing for Bernie in Northern Virginia. The number of people who had talked themselves out of voting for what they wanted because they thought Biden was the only chance to beat Trump was really demoralizing.
