more than one sentence, but here's a bit from a yet-unpublished piece that i'm pretty proud of. it's of two aliens who have been trapped in an underground fascist colony, sharing memories of their past lives. (yes, it's 2nd PoV, but it's not a reader/insert, the narrator is their own character.)

«Will you... show me our future again?»

«... Of course.» He lowers his head, gently threads your tentacles together, and - reminds you.

When he first explained what he knew of your shared affliction, he said it came from retaining memories from the thrall that hosted you. He asked if you had any strange memories or dreams that somehow felt as if they both were and weren't your own, and… You did think of one. You told him of a recurring dream you sometimes had: a dream of rolling hills, of fields of flowers, of lush forests, all under a starry sky you had most definitely never seen in person. All you recalled from those dreams was the impossible brightness of those greens and the safety you felt from being under those deciduous trees. Somehow, his theory made sense - you always felt a connection to nature that seemed illogical, finding yourself especially content with life when being sent out on mushroom-foraging missions on the outskirts of the colony.

In return, he showed you something even more impossible: the ocean.

You couldn't believe it, at first. A sprawling body of water that not only went beyond what the eyes could see, but also moved by itself, ebbing and flowing as if alive, as if it had its own heartbeat? Nonsense. You'd seen lakes and rivers before, but never anything as vast as what he remembered. And he remembered more than just what it looked like - his dreams had sounds. They had smells! Another impossibility, and yet, when the memory played before you as if it were your own, when you heard the cries of gulls and felt the salty spumes flung at you by the waves, when you felt the same exultant joy that echoed throughout your own misplaced dreams, you believed. You knew in your heart that it was all real.

And you had to see it yourself. Your partner's desire to escape the colony instantly became your own, and you didn't know how you would pull it off… But if anyone could make the impossible possible, it would be him.

fanfiction writers, I am feeling particularly grumpy about AI in fanfic spaces. I would love to see your favorite sentence that you have ever written. I need some good, wholly human art today.
