Any arguments that Trump and co make about #tariffs being about evening the playing field for American industry are out the window after agreements made today between #Canada and #Mexico. Tariffs were always about strong-arming our neighbors and biggest trading partners into getting what he wants.

We won’t know the full impacts until we know what #tariffs actually end up looking like, but it’s important to understand that tariffs are a tax on imports. The buyer pays - American companies pay. On top of that, there will be unintended consequences, particularly in #border communities.

Breaking News: President-elect Donald Trump said that he would impose a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico on his first day in office, a move that would scramble North American supply chains and impose heavy costs on businesses around the continent.

It will be interesting to see how cross-border relationships are affected by the use of tariffs, or the threat of tariffs as a negotiating tactic.
