@cwarzel.bsky.social tells @timmiller.bsky.social why the tech oligarchs’ grand vision for the future feels so profoundly anti-human: "They don't seem to be able to articulate a brilliant vision of what the future looks like, because I think their imaginations are really, really small."

so much going on here but all i can think about right now is that i'd really like to have an official regional sponsor for when i leave the united states 'Dunhill, the official regional sponsor of charlie when he has a cigarette in europe because an occasional dart doesn't count there on vacation'
Inbox: "Faraday & Future becomes the Official Regional Sponsor of the Argentine National Team in North America" I see
what a great article — I had no idea about any of this. There are only 25 IMAX 70mm theaters in all of America!! They can’t make new IMAX projectors because they don’t have the plans anymore! They had to track down broken ones ahead of “The Odyssey” and fix them!! variety.com/2026/film/ne...
Why Aren’t There More Imax 70mm Screens for ‘The Odyssey’? ‘It’s Not Practical,’ Company Says
'The Odyssey' has spiked interest in IMAX70mm showings, but the company explains why building more is 'not practical.'

I'm not the greatest headline writer, in part because at the end of writing something, I've usually given it enough of my time/brainspace that it's difficult to have to sum it all up in a catchy, pithy way. but it gets clearer each year that for so many people the hed/dek are the product (it sucks!)
I don’t know how to convince anyone of this, but the hundreds or thousands of words many publications run below the headline aren’t decorative. Often they contain nuance that doesn’t fit into ten words.
when im posting to all of you this is how i imagine our dynamic
Magda watches Arthur forcing down his morning bowl of honey. She remembers when they used to talk, when they used to touch. Now it's just honey all the time. All the doorknobs and drawer handles are sticky. All the spoons are glued together with crusted honey. There are angry bees at the door.
such a good, sad window. these side quest conspiracies are just desperate attempts to protect an alternate reality they've been fed algorithmically. the utter popularity of this film is evidence that they live in a bubble of insanity. so they recruit new "evidence" so as not to confront that truth
the odyssey discourse is a beautiful perfect window into right wing culture war psychosis. they went from hysterial racist mania over a character that’s on screen for 5 minutes to claiming there’s a massive conspiracy to fake ticket sales. this is just what they do for everything now. they’re insane
having now seen the odyssey, i think the only way to view the reactionary freak out over it is to see it a victory for normal ppl everywhere. if you’re so brain poisoned that you can’t enjoy *that* time at the movies then i think you’ve already lost whatever war you think you’re fighting

This week on Galaxy Brain, @cwarzel.bsky.social talks with the soccer podcaster Roger Bennett about what the World Cup has taught us about national pride, collective memory, and the internet in 2026:
In 2020 I wrote about wildfires and the desperation and anxiety a lot of people feel out west feel when the smoke settles in and smothers. Anyhow it led to me going on MSNBC to (animatedly, i guess) talk about it and my friend ended up taking what is the single funniest screen grab of me of all time

interesting piece that scratches also at my personal hobbyhorse which is that nobody knows what anyone else is actually consuming/thinking/where they're hanging out online/what they really believe and so many factions and arguments online are different people shadowboxing imagined people/audiences
