PEOPLE WITH LIBERAL ARTS DEGREES: so while i see there is utility to the system, i’m more or less morally opposed to their current constructs and have big concerns over the business structure and environmental impact WEB CODER: so i met God today,

Reminder: When Ukraine asked Israel for help and access to its Iron Dome technology in June 2023, Netanyahu — on record — cited his good relationship with Putin as reason he could not do so.

"Did OpenAI build AGI?" Short answer: No. Long answer: No. Altman is a con artist and has been for his entire career (the rest of the LLM bros are too, but Altman is well known as one). Even if AGI were ever to happen, it won't be created with an LLM. Stop believing the hype and bullshit.

Personal growth: when I see someone well-respected by my friends posting destructive, braindead bullshit like "trans rights are AI rights," I simply block them and move on instead of picking a fight that will consume my entire workday with someone who clearly has literal AI psychosis

White Dems expect me to be horrified by how ICE treats immigrants, but OK with how cops treat me. 🙂🙃 I don't understand that. But the answer is no. White Dems see the GOP as evil fascists, but themselves as good and just, for doing the exact same things. I don't understand that either.

To be clear everyone involved in this should go to prison. This is not some petty "but the golf course was so nice beforehand" shit, this is "you are in open and flagrant violation of the law in that you lied to the court about your intentions and timelines" territory people.com/dozens-trees...

Dozens of Trees Quietly Toppled in D.C. Without Court Approval Ahead of Trump’s New Golf Course Makeover: Report

Over 60 trees were removed at East Potomac Golf Links before official approval for renovations was granted, the Washington Post reported Friday, Aug. 26. Preservationists argue the plans violate a law...

Ever notice how the same people that say "$x is inevitable. You need to just go with it" are the same people who say "I always knew $x wasn't going to work" when $x fails spectacularly? Well, $x is well on its way to failing. Yes. This is a post about tech.

It's scary to accept this, but know that the vast majority of people believe that AI is the next big thing because a bunch of rich/powerful people spent a lot of money, and the media repeated their plans as if they were already complete because spent so much money.

Food companies wanted deregulation. Now there are dozens of recalls across the country. Mining companies wanted deregulation. Now the black lung rate is at a 45-year high. Financial companies wanted deregulation. Now financial losses to fraud are the highest on record. Noticing a pattern?

So apparently Oracle has banned the use of LLM generated assets (code, docs, etc) from Open JDK Talk about irony. Building data centers for LLM slop, but banning it in your own products. Maybe this should tell you how things are going to end...

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

The drive of people to create isn't about the end result - it's about the journey. It's why we do "pointless" things. A vast majority of the time, the end result *doesn't matter*. The things we learned, the struggles, and the experiences are the important part

Are they also going to make them wear a patch on their jacket? Also, taking their passports? So they don't want them in the country, but they want to prevent them from leaving the country? Makes you wonder "why," doesn't it? (Yes, we already know why)

My small British company was bought by Americans. I have just been formally reprimanded for sarcasm and sardonic commentary. I told the disciplinary panel I was grateful for the opportunity to reflect on my attitude going forward and would be certain to bear it in mind in future.
