In this horizontal black-and-white photograph, the heron appears partially silhouetted and perfectly reflected as it leans over the pond, poised to spear a fish beneath an arched log. This environmental composition reveals the broader scene, with still water mirroring the trees along the opposite shoreline and the curved log that emerges from the water at center-left before dipping back beneath the surface near the right side of the frame.
