"Where the hell have you been hiding?" Yunho doesn't even need to look down at the hands worming their way around his diaphram to know who it is, palms blazing hot through the thin cotton of his shirt. He can hear the pout that comes with the follow up, "Have you been avoiding me?"

And that's the thing with Wooyoung, isn't it? Familiarity is never lost with him, regardless of how long he's known someone or how long it's been since he's seen them. He'd bitten Yunho on the shoulder two days after meeting him, casual and playful, and drawled something about being so cute he could just eat him up. Yunho's ears had gone red-hot in seconds, poorly hidden as they were under his recently-cut hair, and Mingi had laughed at him for weeks.

That was almost nine years ago, though. Yunho has, to some degree, gotten used to the casual affection that comes with Wooyoung's friendship. Long gone are the days where he turns the color of a summer tomato when Wooyoung's lips press against his cheek. Mostly. "And why would I be doing that?" Yunho laughs, settling his own hand over Wooyoung's against his stomach. Familiar. Comfortable.

"Well I don't know." His teeth, somewhat predictably, find Yunho's shoulder and sink in. The trapped fabric of his shirt turns hot and damp fast, clinging to teeth and skin. There and then gone, the bite is lighter than usual. "I'm a goddamn delight."

wipwednesday: declaration chapter very slowly slowly creeping into existence

Mingi tunes them out again as Joong catches his attention. It looks like the captain’s pulled Seonghwa aside for some last minute words, too. Hongjoong’s head dips, and for one horrified moment Mingi thinks he might be fighting off tears, but no. He’s just reaching back to unclasp a chain from around his neck, shaking it clumsily free of his hair.

When he offers it to Seonghwa, Mingi sees it’s the necklace Seonghwa’s family gave him, the little stone token meant to protect him from the squizards. The dragon shifter doesn’t take it from him, even though he’s holding it out patiently. He turns around instead, sweeps the long fall of his hair aside and bares his own neck. Hongjoong moves closer with a dreamlike slowness, slipping the necklace around Seonghwa’s neck. He fidgets with the clasp a while, but even when he gets it closed he makes no move to step away. His fingertips rest awkwardly on the back of the shifter’s neck, before falling gently to his shoulders. He says something, voice low — at which point Mingi realises belatedly that he’s staring, and also that this is none of his business. He starts as Wooyoung throws himself bodily into his arms, winds around him like a limpet.

“As for you,” he says, pressed against Mingi’s chest, “you need to make sure you come back too. You’re a part of our marriage, that whole soldering-thing isn’t complete unless you're there. You’re the extra bit, the part that keeps us working.”

I’m gonna be baking pies for everyone, alright? Lucky dip pies, with faces.”

“What’re you putting in them?” Mingi asks.

Wooyoung cups his cheeks and waggles his face back and forth. “It’s a surprise. You come back, you find out. You don’t come back, I’m feeding your pie to Billford.”

“Scandalous,” he says. “Inhumane cruelty! San, your husband’s a sadist.”

“Only if I ask him nicely,” San murmurs, drawing Wooyoung back into one last, fierce hug.

Hongjoong’s heart leapt at the alert saying he had a message from Seonghwa, and then he just sat there staring at his phone until the screen went dark again. He should read it and respond, like a normal person, a normal friend. And he would do it! He just needed to psych himself up a little first.

He woke the phone back up and swiped the message open. He wasn’t sure how he managed to feel such extreme simultaneous relief and disappointment when he saw it was an invitation to dinner to meet a prospective commission client. It was good, he told himself firmly, that there would be other people around.
