Yeosang was a beast in his own right, made up of deep powerful thrusts just shy of being too slow, panting in the firelight, nails sunk into the meat of Yunho's ribs welling up pinpricks of blood. Each movement was calculated. Each tightening squeeze of his hands a sign of Yeosang's rapidly declining self-control.

Yunho wanted him to break. He wanted to know what it felt like to have Yeosang lose himself because Yunho felt that good around him. He wanted to be used and taken and welcomed into this coven in whatever way they'd have him.

His own claws raked blood across Yeosang's chest as he swiped at it, pawing for more, growling in want. Their eyes met in the flicker of firelight and a silent understanding passed between them, pressing Yeosang in closer, deeper, folding Yunho in on himself to pick up speed and power. Each kiss that followed was messier than the last. Fangs nipped at lips, claws dragged down Yeosang's back, and Yunho refused to stay quiet.

Mingi’s gut clenches and he takes a swig of beer to give it something else to worry about. “I’m growing feathers? Oh, wow. That’s not something I ever saw myself doing. That’s… that’s great.”
“What do you know about the plague?” Yunho’s tone’s so mild, like he hasn’t just signed away Mingi’s last hope of normal with that one word. He’s growing fucking feathers.
“I know it only hits the Unsanctified,” he says. “Leftover battle shit, war spells. I know the redthroats like to disappear the people who catch it.”
“We take care of them in our hospitals.”
“Nobody ever sees them again,” Mingi observes. He takes another sip of beer, watching the priest fail to argue with that one.
“Well, the original spell’s not one of ours. Sector One cast it, although it’s evolved since. Plague victims are… unpredictable. The transformations are usually dangerous. To you, as well as us.”
“I’m growing feathers,” he says, voice dropping in anger, anger and fear. “How the fuck’s that a threat to Halazia?”
“It’s not what you’ll look like, it’s what you’ll become.”

Father Scarecrow’s pen taps his paper. “What does your intuition say about him?”

“He’s a bird.” Maybe it’s the way Song Mingi stands, the start of that hunch they all seem to get. It’s a shame, because he looks big. Useful. Stubborn. But stubborn’s a pain in the ass and Mingi is a bird. Even if Yunho wanted to smuggle him out — which he doesn’t — Hongjoong’s only taking the wildcards. He’s got no use for a bird. The risk is way too high.

Yunho slowed as they reached a small clearing, sniffing the air like he could sense this was where they needed to be. Cutting through the middle of it was a felled oak, long since turned into mulch and insect homes blanketed in moss and lichen. Ferns sprouted up from various shadowed corners and curled like golden feathers in the light. A perfect spot to plant an anchor.

With a gentle pat to Yunho's side, Hongjoong slid off the direwolf's back and immediately got assaulted by a wet tongue slobbering all over his face. It took several shouts of his name before Yunho was satisfied, sitting back on his haunches looking far too proud of himself. Hongjoong roughly swiped at the mess on his face with his sleeves and grimaced seeing them come back utterly drenched. "That's disgusting."

Yunho grinned, showing off rows of beautifully sharp teeth, and offered up the tiniest 'boof' in return. Pleased as could be.

This concept was introduced to me as "run the dishwasher twice" and was an important part of my executive functioning recovery as well as my path to self-acceptance.

When I was at one of my lowest (mental) points in life, I couldn't get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by.

I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week I didn't have much to 'bring' to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say.

'What are you struggling with?' he asked.

I gestured around me and said 'I dunno man. Life.'

Not satisfied with my answer, he said 'No, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you?'

I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didn't want to say it. I wanted to have something more substantial.
Something more profound.

But I didn't.

So I told him, 'Honestly? The dishes. It's stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CAN'T do them because I'll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just can't stand and scrub the dishes.'

I felt like an idiot even saying it.

What kind of grown ass woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with *actual* problems, and I'm whining to my therapist about dishes?

But he nodded in understanding and then said:

'RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.'

I began to tell him that you're not supposed to, but he stopped me.

'Why the hell aren't you supposed to? If you don't want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares?! Rules do not exist.'

It blew my mind in a way that I don't think I can properly express.

That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times.

I felt like I had conquered a dragon.

The next day, I took a shower lying down.

A few days later. I folded my laundry and put them wherever the fuck they fit.

There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again.

Now that I'm in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry.

But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson:

THERE ARE NO RULES. RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!!!"

sure you're perfect i used to give myself shit that i wouldn't be able to eat healthier or take care of myself in an optimal way here's a cool trick tho: ANYTHINGis is better than nothing. if you can only eat a couple vegetables? buddy thats better than no vegetables. worried about brushing your teeth for like three minutes? do like ten seconds instead want to socialize more often but you're worried you can't do multi-hour events? babe you're an adult now, if you get tired you can just leave lol If you want to improve, fuck yeah, work your way up to more of whatever. starting at all is the hard part - if you can do that then you've got a lot of what you need already anyway ive crunched the numbers and treating yourself a little bit better than yesterday is actually a million times better than trying to Fix Your Life Completely and getting mad when you can't do a 180. be nice and recognize that you can live a lot of your life in first or second drafts; if you're not perfect yet? fuck it, you'll get better later! u can do it!!! woof!!

reposting my wip with text in alt text!

His unexpected visitor must be light on his feet, or sneaky as all hell. Mingi doesn’t even realise there’s someone in the hallway until the doorbell buzzes a warning, stirring him from the daze he’s fallen into on the couch.

The peephole leaves his visitor weirdly distorted. He’s round-cheeked, hollow-eyed, bare forehead bulbous under slicked-back hair. The black suit and deep red turtleneck mark him out as a junior priest of Halazia, a baby redneck. There’s a discreet silver talisman on his lapel and an official-looking clipboard in his hands.

This is it. The wages of Mingi’s sins. Chickens, home to roost. Inevitable, the moment he set each and every one of the plague wards screaming at the front doors of his local superette.

Mingi’s still in the formal suit he wore to the funeral this morning, but there’s nothing he can do about that now. He opens the door just before his guest can ring again; the redneck’s finger retracts slowly. His cool look of assessment hangs in the air a little longer.

“Song Mingi?”

It’s a nice voice. He’s a nice-looking guy— or he would’ve been, if something hadn’t power-sucked all the joy and humanity out of him. Mingi’s betting on the priesthood. They have that effect on him, too.

“Yeah,” he says, belatedly. The priest’s eyes are giving him the willies. They’re a milky blue, the colour of wet bone. They look unnatural, and Mingi’s even less cool with the unnatural than usual these days.

For a moment, he considers not letting the redneck in. Just for a moment, until common sense smacks him over the knuckles. Today they’re going easy on him, sending the Movie Star Priest with his clipboard of bad news. If Mingi turns him away, he’ll be back with reinforcements and a warrant.

He steps aside and the priest drifts past him into the apartment. He doesn’t offer any name of his own. The pale, cool gaze takes in Mingi’s mound of wrinkled bedding, kicked to the foot of the couch. Scraped-clean Blue Bird noodle cartons on the table, the rusting rail that serves as a wardrobe for his two remaining suits. That one corner of the room with a cluster of lamps, already lit despite the early hour.

“I’m sure you know why I’m here.” It’s not a question, so Mingi doesn’t bother with an answer. “I know you gave a statement already, but we’ve got some follow-up questions for you, now that a little time has passed.”

Again, not a question. Mingi’s tempted to drop back onto the couch to show just how few fucks he gives about the priesthood and their questions, but he doesn’t want to give the priest the height advantage, not in his own home.

“You’re, what… three weeks post-diagnosis?”

“Four.”

The redneck looks down at his papers, frowning, like he’s fact-checking Mingi’s memory. “And your parents never got you Sanctified, is that correct?”

“We were on the move a lot, when I was a kid,” he says.

“But you chose not to get the Rite later, as an adult.”

“My name went on a list.” It was a long list, and he’s not in any of the priority groups. By the time people knew what happened to the Unsanctified, there was nothing they could do for most of them but watch them. Monitor them. Send the priests in when the worst inevitably happened.

“Have you been seeing any symptoms yet?”

“Such as?”

The priest recites them easily, like he’s checking off a list. “Sensory effects. Pins and needles in your hands, numbness, night sweats. Pigmentation change in your extremities. Rapid nail growth, excess hair growth. Unusual dreams.”

Mingi thinks he’s buried his response to that well enough, but the washed-out eyes flicker up from the papers.

The priest prompts him, eyebrows raised. “Unusual dreams?”

Mingi shrugs. “Dreams are inherently weird. You’re going to have to define ‘unusual’.”

“More vivid than usual. More…” He fades off, and something in his face shifts. It’s not quite a smile, but it makes him look momentarily more human. Trick of the light, perhaps. “One client I spoke to, he said it was like getting stuck in the pages of a photo album. Like he had to fight his way out of a maze of polaroids. Things just felt… brighter, larger than life. More real, but splintered. Fragmented. Nothing like that?”

Mingi’s not about to mention the man in the corner, not to this redneck with his crisp cuffs and his tidy lists, the picturesque anecdotes. He’s not even sure that the man in the corner is a dream, and isn’t that something to think about. “Nothing like that, no.”

The momentary softness fades. “By now, we’d be expecting something noticeable. To you, if not to anybody else. You’re sure you’ve noticed nothing out of the ordinary?”

He’s pretty sure he’s successful in fighting the urge to check out the corner of the room. “Nope. Just lucky, I guess.”

“Huh.” The priest notes something on the paper, anyway. His writing’s too cramped for Mingi to make it out upside down. Nothing good, he’s sure of it. “In that case, we’ll send someone in another week to check in. The sooner we can get your notes in order, the better.”

He pockets his pen and takes one last look around, lingering for a beat on the Blue Bird cartons strewn across the table.

Will it be you, next time? Mingi wants to ask, but it doesn’t really matter in the end. They’re all the same, the Halazia rednecks. Liars, bootlickers. Tools of a corrupt government, scrambling to keep control. One of a long, long list of reasons his dad used to hide him in the bed of the ute whenever they came around looking for kids to Sanctify, back when he was little.

The priest is almost out the door when Mingi stirs enough to ask. “What happened to him?”

“I knew you were a Bangtan fan.”
“How…?” Jimin asked.
“You were singing in the closet that one night. And Wooyoung had a Bangtan patch on his jacket.”
Jimin hadn’t even noticed that, but he was more concerned about the fact that Hoseok remembered him singing in the closet. Except when he’d come in, he’d been listening to j-hope’s solo discography. Had he been there longer than Jimin had been aware?
“Two Bangtan fans working as my stylists.”
“Probably more,” Jimin said.
He’d noticed Yunjin and Yeonjun had Bangtan tells as well. Yeonjun had a Bangtan era bracelet, made up of fake bullet casings and chains. It was from the fifth membership box, which Jimin had at home. Yunjin had a Bangtan tattoo on her inner left wrist—it was of a whale, in tribute to the song “Whalien 52.” But Jimin was a veteran ARMY—he could pick up on any miniscule sign. How he had missed Wooyoung’s patch was still strange to him.
Hoseok’s eyes lit up some. “Really? That’s so cool.”
That made Jimin smile. He was happy that Hoseok liked the idea of working with his fans as opposed to being creeped out. Jimin would have understood if Hoseok was uncomfortable with it and would have respected him not wanting to work with them, though.
