It's hard for established writers to move on, I get that, but they are also in some ways the people best placed to do so. They have a brand! People like them! Readers want to read their writing and the platform is not the draw. Do the hard thing and be the better person. Please.
7/7 The protest highlights a growing friction between rapid AI expansion and local communities bearing the infrastructural burden. Accountability and environmental guardrails remain key demands. Source: Fakiha Baig, The Canadian Press via CTV News calgary.citynews.ca/2026/08/02/d...
Dozens protest Meta's plan for massive data centre in northern Alberta county
Hundreds of protesters chanted “Down, down with corporations” outside a northern Alberta county office on Sunday to voice their opposition to tech giant Meta’s plan to build a data centre. The morning...

6/7 "AI, for young people especially, represents a threat to our careers as it's increasingly replacing what were good paying jobs," Baril warned. Seniors for Climate Action Now also joined, arguing resources shouldn't be handed over to foreign billionaires.
5/7 The opposition isn't just about climate—it's about the very technology being housed. Ben Baril, a 20-year-old business student and protest organizer, cited artificial intelligence as a direct risk to future employment.
4/7 The environmental footprint is a major flashpoint. Organizers note the facility will rely on natural gas, with no clear plan on how future centres will be energized. A recent UN report warns the global footprint of data centres already rivals some of the largest countries.
3/7 Local residents are deeply worried about the environmental and economic toll. Jessica Tomashiro attended the rally because data centres require immense amounts of water and power for cooling. "My water, my electricity prices are already high, so how much higher can they go?"
2/7 The morning protest took place in Morinville, where the tech giant announced plans to construct a massive one-gigawatt facility. Demonstrators braved the rain, waving signs that targeted Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg directly, including one demanding: "Expropriate The Billionaire."

Well done, Canada! #Canadians spent $3.3 billion less on travel to the #USA in 2025 than 2024!
Why would any sane Canadian risk travelling to the US? Data shows #ICE has arrested hundreds of Canadians...including children and elderly adults. Our dollars are better spent on European vacations, I lived and travelled in Europe for 5 years, & they LOVE Canadians. #cdnpoli 🍁#tourism #travel
As #Canada faces record-breaking #wildfires & #heatwaves, Mark Carney is trying to fast-track & finance a new climate-polluting, ecosystem-destroying, economically reckless pipeline that will only add to our #climatecrisis. Act now & call for investment in clean energy solutions instead: #CDNPoli
Stop fuelling wildfires with new pipeline
Tell your MP to stop fuelling Canada's climate crisis with new pipelines and invest in real nation-building projects instead.

Yes! I wonder how this affects Moe's plan to incarcerate homeless people in drug addiction facilities in Sask.

I just saw the announcement: Regina Police approved the noise abatement permit for the Regina City Jamia Masjid. The call-to-prayer will be going ahead downtown. I personally think this is great news. #yqrcc

Renewables make practical sense on multiple levels: costs, environment, sustainability… So, why are archaic energy practices being vehemently upheld and imposed on us? Because they can’t fleece us with renewables. #AbLeg #AbPoli #CanPoli #CdnPoli

Yes. Two months is a long time to boil water and is unbelievable and unacceptable. So is the 31-year boil water advisory for Neskantaga First Nation in northwestern Ontario. #cdnpoli #onpoli www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/loca...
I love thinking of the people who actually made the things we find. There is something comforting in knowing we are not so different.
15,000 years ago, in one of the the earliest settled communities in the world, a child collected fine clay from the slow-moving river by her home. She then committed an act familiar to all inveterate play-doh enthusiasts; rolling and and pinching the squishy clay into tiny round balls.
You know what? Let’s see the imaginary American firefighters that Trump sent to stop these wildfires without the help of Canadian firefighters. It ain’t like we have lend a hand on fighting American wildfires in past. Have fun bud! #USA #USApoli #Canada #Cdnpoli

When an international agreement comes in force and coal power plants are given 5 years to be decommissioned, I wonder how @mark-carney.bsky.social will react to provinces who foolishly went down this path, knowing their ideology can't defeat climate reality.
Saskatchewan locations are always first or second for sunniest places in Canada, and we definitely have wind in southern Sask. But solar and wind aren't as easily held out of range of citizens' hands. They don't want us thinking we have something like energy rights.

Here's one serious reason that nuclear power might not be the way to go: "High temperatures have forced France to shut down multiple nuclear reactors, exposing the vulnerability of nuclear power to climate change and its profound impact on the French economy and European energy markets."
Send this to everyone. My right wing father always comes back with "What about the economy?" to end every argument. Well, *here* is what about the economy. #CdnPoli #CanPoli #Sask #YQR #SkPoli @mark-carney.bsky.social

Stupidity is all the rage in the governing Sask Party! It's as though they're ignoring all the ick of the uranium industry, thinking there will be profits. But there will not be. There will be illness and death, of that we can be certain. Read Helen Caldicott, Jim Harding, Gordon Edwards.
