THREAD: The boy is called a liar. He’s told not to defend himself. Then the private school owner encourages all of his peers to attack him, one by one. She hits him, repeatedly, with a plastic pipe-like object. How does this school still exist — and receive state funds? 🧵

Julio is the kind of person we need in politics. Dedicated, generous with his time and energy, focused on helping people, and perhaps most importantly for this role, he's patient and welcoming with newcomers who want to get involved. Excited to see what a party that reflects his leadership can do.

Brooklyn is going to have a new Democratic Party. The Brooklyn Can’t Wait coalition of 22 incoming District Leaders have voted to nominate and elect District Leader @juliopenabk.com as Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair this coming September. 1/x

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Joan Sebastian Salguero, the 26-year-old husband & father killed by ICE today in Maine, was at least the 9th person killed by federal immigration agents, and at least the 22nd person shot, during the lawless regime of Donald Trump.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was a father of three who built houses in Houston, started his own business, and raised his family here for 35 years. His son became a teacher. ICE agents killed him in cold blood. 🧵

The videos from different immigrant communities across the country celebrating their World Cup teams is just the perfect summation of what's actually worth celebrating about 250 years of the USA. I love this so much. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

In the United States, Every World Cup Team Is a Home Team

At block parties, backyards and beer halls, an expanded tournament gave immigrant diasporas large and small the chance to revel in support of their home countries.

Went to the soccer yesterday and Olise and Mbappe playfully running circles around everyone else is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Can't see how anyone is beating France.

I'm INCREDIBLY PROUD of my fellow @repyourblock.bsky.social and Brooklyn Can't Wait organizers! They've worked so, so hard — with the odds stacked very highly against us — to defeat the corrupt Brooklyn Dems machine. And it looks like our work is paying off! 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶 Y'all are the real heroes.

Brooklyn Can't Wait candidates are now uncontested or leading in 22 seats, out of 42 that is a majority, enough to elect a new chair I think we did it

That would have been Turek's opponent who lost decisively despite polls suggesting he would be equally or more competitive against Hinson. No easy way to change that but one thing would be for NY Dems to throw out party leaders who help put big money on the side of cowardice nationally

I would love for one (1) Democratic candidate to respond to this kind of bullshit by saying "My opponent is a panty-sniffing creep who wants to inspect your children's genitals."

“The investigators soon discovered a potential cause for the unit-wide dereliction of duty: Sgt. Edmond Williams was locked out of his agency computer for 10 weeks leading up to Lin’s arrest. This whole story is some real Super Troopers shit, but without the cheeky pranks in rural Vermont.

Streetsblog NYC@nyc.streetsblog.org · 3mo ago

Troopers in a rogue NY State Police unit based in the city routinely blew off their supposed duties of patrolling MTA bridges and tunnels to listen to music, sleep with their girlfriends and, in one case, drive to a strip club in New Jersey, get drunk and get arrested for assault.

For instance stories like this new update might spur more people to question why (allegedly) shameless financial criminals get released on unsecured bail instead of getting locked up

The relentless beat reporting that @hellgatenyc.com has been doing on the Frank Seddio-adjacent fraud and corruption case is exactly the sort of thing I think of when I think about the importance of local journalism and what has been lost in too many communities
