He/Him, Indigenous person living in the colonial state of Canada, eager to throw off the shackles of capital and the world power built around it, otherwise nondescript.

I sat next to my mother yesterday for a 12 hour shift as poll workers, which gave us plenty of time to chat. I told her I was attending another protest this week, she got a little concerned and asked what it was for. “Early Childhood Education costs”, I replied. childcareontario.org/care-counts-...

Care Counts: Rally for Early Learning and Child Care - OCBCC

Ontario has signed a four-year extension to their child care agreement, but advocates are slamming the new plan for freezing wage improvements, stalling fee

A lesson on what it's like to be an anti-capitalist organizer out in the world, and how to deal with the emotions that interactions bring up when the stakes are life and death—and the person that you're talking to does not necessarily know that:

Finally home from working the polls all day - decent turnout (at least where I was!), which is always nice to see for municipal elections. I briefly considered turning around and heading to my favoured mayoral candidate’s potential victory party, but I’ve been out of the house for 13 hours, so

Election Day, Ontario municipalities! I’ll be working the polls all day (so my phone will be diligently tucked away, per policy), but I hope you all have a wonderful day and, if you haven’t already, get out there today and VOTE! ☑️🗳️

The prospect of a sleepless night is particularly galling given how busy my next couple weeks should be. Alas and alack, we find ourselves off to a suboptimal start. Staring at this glowing rectangle will surely help. (Love and solidarity, everyone 🫶)

Queer Organizations Sound Alarm over Conservative Anti-Trans Rhetoric

I've come to the conclusion it's fine to just be blanket anti-AI right now. We can have the nuanced discussions about local models, limited usage, etc. later. It's simply not possible to have those discussions right now. The current emergency is AI as fascist movement. We need to fight that.

if you ever happen to see someone post a joke you don't understand or discuss a subject you aren't familiar with, you are well within your right to complain, and perhaps even scold them if necessary. you are their customer and you have rights

If I can offer something, as an anthropologist: humans have always learned by listening to other people speak out loud. There are massive problems with social media and critical thinking/literacy decline, but video/audio formats aren't inherently anti-intellectual. Capitalism is the problem

I'm sorry if it makes me lib as hell but I do think it's a serious issue a lot of people in power have worked tirelessly to disempower education and journalism and that people are reading significantly less and that information is increasingly disseminated by video formats speaking authoritatively.

It is being hailed as a historic gathering. Next week, First Nations and the prime minister and premiers will sit down together in Ottawa. What should we expect to go down at the meeting? That is one of the topics this week on Truth & Politics.

To my indigenous siblings, two exciting things about this event: 1) There is a tranche of tickets set aside that are available for free for indigenous people (around the globe!), and 2) Remember that knowledge is power, and refreshing how colonization happened can help us reverse it!
