Yes, of course McDonald’s posting about National Coming Out Day is “performative.” Nobody thinks Ronald McDonald threw the first brick at Stonewall. Nonetheless, the biggest and most influential institutions in American life performing affirmation of LGBT social and civil equality is a good thing.

It's another policy which feels most likely to appeal solely to the 20% or so Reform core vote, and also to harden other voters' resolve to vote however is needed to keep out a Reform government - as do many of their recent announcements.

been trying to fit why i think ‘ppl will vote labour to keep reform out’ strategy is doomed to fail in to a single post they don’t understand that the left, and minorities, hate them more than we hate farage. we fear them more than we fear farage anyway had to use a note instead

i don't spend any time thinking about nigel farage. i don't have strong feelings about that man at all. he's a repugnant bigot and a chancer but... so is andy burnham, so is kemi badenoch. the ppl who keep me awake at night are ppl like peter. the john harris', the gaby hinsliffs, the hadley freemans, the stephen bushs, the james balls, the jk rowlings, the suzanne moores, the graham linehans, the janes fucking o'briens. these ppl think being absurdly racist and xenophobic is just playing politics, they think mass murdering transgender ppl is grown-up politics, and they think treating disabled ppl as useless eaters is strong economics. im not worried about farage. i *nothing* farage. i lie awake at night worried about the horrors the sensible, reasonable, grownups are going to rationalise next.

Exactly as predicted: Elder abuse. This is from Danny Trejo’s son, Gilbert Trejo. Not only did Ben Shapiro’s camp trick the elder Trejo about what the movie really was, he apparently signed a contract barring him from even putting out a statement about it.

For anyone seeing this shit with my dad... He was booked on a film, it's not pro-ice, it's not overtly pro anything. His agent described it as "a complicated story about a complicated time, where everyone looks bad except you, the hardworking Mexican shop owner who just wants peace" He jumped at the idea of playing a good guy. About 2 weeks into shooting everyone, including us, found out Ben Shapiro was involved. My 82 year old dad has never heard of Ben Shapiro, I had to explain to him who that is, and what kind of guy he is. My dad contractually can't bad mouth him, the film, or walk away without being sued for breach of contract. He couldn't even release the statement he wanted to. It's fucked up. He's handcuffed to this stupid project, and swaths of people have instantly turned their back on him without knowing any of the facts. Ben Shapiro got Mexicans to abandon one of their heroes, got his own name to the top of google's searches, and made us look like angry fools lacking any nuance. He wins.

I had Harvey Keitel and his caregivers on my airplane like 17 years ago and even back then I was like, “This man has dementia and is being propped up by gold diggers.” If you’ve read Trejo’s memoir you know the real him would never do this. Seriously think this is double elder abuse, or fake.
