There are mobs of people driven by youtube influencers freaking out at D'addario (guitar string manufacturer) supposedly "using AI" in a promo video which has a video of a guitarist clearly playing the damn thing, it's just overproduced djent. Sick of reactionary hordes harassing real artists. Stop

D'addario finishes their Instagram response by making the obvious material analysis that AI literally threatens their business, never mind the creativity that gives them purpose.

I got started on a Sound Blaster Pro 2 cover of "Brave" by Nitro Fun et. al. (the Rivals of Aether 2 Evo 2026 theme) using Furnace Tracker. I've wanted to write music for Sound Blaster since I was a kid so I'm pretty jazzed about finally getting a handle on FM synth.

If you believe this, and I hope you do, there is nothing stopping you from continuing to protect your vulnerable neighbors by wearing masks in crowded and indoor spaces, especially necessary spaces like healthcare facilities, grocery stores, and public transportation. Absolutely nothing.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

I'm honestly sick of seeing engagement (enragement?) bait like this so consistently rewarded on Bluesky. People like Zach know the crowd here will absolutely lose it of you "break news" of impending AI doom, and go from a dozen reposts or less to 2000+ instantly on vacuous bullshit they made up.

Twitch "Chief monetization officer" (??) says, in 2024 with zero outside coverage, something that looks suspiciously NOT like an answer to the rephrased "question" presented, for which there is no other source because the Creator Economy Summit is an event hosted and presented entirely by this lackadaisical publisher, "The Information"In the other cited source, Dan Clancy is not only quotable NOWHERE as supporting or even hinting at training AI with user data, but is repeatedly describing the pitfalls of both training and using AI products in these settings.Dan goes as far as to describe Twitch's scrapeable data, even to outside actors, as low-value for training purposes. Responsibly, BusinessInsider points out that parent company Amazon has a deal with Anthropic, but this only demonstrates interest, not necessarily an economy of access that presents a different value profile to Amazon scraping Twitch's data for training, which I also believe to be of low relative value for a number of reasons. Twitch is high-volume ephemeral content, and anti-AI activists should build an analysis on consistent impressions of the economic status of the industry. Is AI unsustainably expensive (a subject of much depoliticizing smug triumphalism on this platform) and requiring economical decisions to survive the excesses of bubble investment? Or is it trivial, amply provisioned, and prepared to train on an Internet firehose on a scale comparable to the American dragnet "Prism" system? These things matter.

Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.
