I fundamentally do not know how to square the politics whereby Democrats will essentially have to tell the American people that because they (the voters) made an extremely stupid decision, they need to lower their expectations substantially for the foreseeable future, but here we are.

El-Sayed did not “minimize the attack” on a Michigan synagogue. He said it was ethically and legally indefensible and emphasized that we can understand the context without condoning - which is also how I feel about Israeli genocide in Gaza after 10/7/2023.

“Michigan Democrats will vote on their Senate nominee today. Abdul El-Sayed is the frontrunner. He's also a radical Islamist sympathizer. El-Sayed was caught on leaked audio telling staff he wouldn't comment on the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader—worried it would upset Dearborn voters. After a Hezbollah-inspired attacker drove a truck into a synagogue preschool with 100+ kids inside, he minimized the attack, saying "hurt people hurt people." His candidacy is a sign of broader trends in the Democratic party, and especially in Michigan. Depicting Jewish people with horns is a centuries-old, dehumanizing, antisemitic trope. Democratic Gov nominee Phil Weiser is outspoken about his mother’s birth in a Nazi concentration camp, his family members killed in the Holocaust, and the threat posed by antisemitism today.

wow, i was not expecting to be blocked by @kenjennings.bsky.social over this. We’ve previously interacted in friendly ways, so i reached out in good faith & not trying to drag him. I was giving the benefit of the doubt that maybe his transphobic behavior was unintended. really disappointing.
