There are so many thoughts. Like - why are governments cutting support for basic and crop research? Why are we allowing energy-demanding, water-hoarding "data centres" to be built? When will people wake up to the future we are allowing to happen? ☹️ www.theguardian.com/environment/...

‘It’s too fast, too big’: speed of climate crisis is devastating crops, say farmers

Drought and extreme heat are killing plants, driving up prices while also making some farms economically unviable

Abstract. Oxygenic phototrophs fix CO2 via the enzyme ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RubisCO), which shows relatively low CO2 affinity an

Another pyrenoid, another example of convergent evolution to condense Rubisco and turbocharge photosynthesis. This time in a multicellular organism. So much fun exploring a seaweed pyrenoid with @jonasblomme.bsky.social, @mjplevin.bsky.social, @jnb-lab.bsky.social, @james-r-barrett.bsky.social.

Excited to share our latest preprint on #PhycologyFriday. We map out the carbon fixation pathway for the first time in a multicellular alga, the green seaweed Ulva, and reveal a unique Rubisco-Linker interaction in the pyrenoid, a chloroplast condensate. Below I summarize some key points. #seaweeds

The ARC has released their new set of grant schemes ▶️ www.arc.gov.au/news-and-pub... Before implementing them, they’re now going to “consult with the sector”. Hopefully genuinely, not just with a few disengaged DVCRs. In the meantime, there’ll be another round of Discovery Projects (DP28).
