BrANCH is excited to invite submissions for the Harriet Tubman Prize 2026! Deadline: 25 July 2026 (For more details about the aim of the prize and submitting your work, see our CfP below. For queries related to the prize, please contact our EDI officer Jasmin Bath, Jtb43@cam.ac.uk)

We invite submissions for the Harriet Tubman Prize, sponsored by the Royal Historical Society. Undergraduate coursework on any aspect of American history in the long nineteenth century is welcome, from students identifying as BAME who are in the final two years of their undergraduate studies. Work should be 2500-3500 words in length, including footnotes but excluding bibliography. While we expect the thematic content to be broad, judges will consider the level of knowledge, writing style, degree of original thinking, and overall quality of the piece. The winner of the Harriet Tubman Prize will receive £500. 

Submissions should include a letter from a lecturer in the student’s department confirming their registration on an undergraduate course, alongside a permanent mailing address and email address for the student. Submissions (with the subject line Harriet Tubman Prize), and any other queries related to the prize, should be sent to our EDI officer Jasmin Bath, Jtb43@cam.ac.uk.

Deadline: 25 July 2026

Submit nominations for the AHA’s awards and prizes by May 15. The AHA recognizes outstanding historical work of many types, including exceptional books, distinguished teaching and mentoring, film, and digital projects and resources.
