Ooh In need to check this out, and you do too if you live or at least spend a lot of time in the City of Pittsburgh

City of Pittsburgh employees who work Downtown now get free public transit
Emily Embrey has commuted by bus since she started work for the City of Pittsburgh about nine years ago. Taking public transit was a “no-brainer,” said Embrey, the Zone 5 Safer Together Co...

I just want to go on more silly little train & bike trips 🥺
I've built a map displaying where on the Amtrak network you can take your bike, line-by-line and station-by-station. This data isn't available anywhere else, check out where you can go! amtrak-bike-map.transittools.dev
Broke my spoke AGAIN! 🙄 Thankfully, I live in a place with multimodal transportation. So I'm back on PRT, and I must appreciate that I'm so glad I don't need to rely on hourly service anymore. Now if only POGOH had a spot for my panniers.
this is not true. there was no conspiracy. it didn't matter whether the streetcars were publicly owned (seattle, detroit) or private (los angeles, atlanta). a thread (because i wrote a whole-ass book on this): 1/?
Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
The fact that the Floridian is ranked so low is quite a shame, considering that it is THE Amtrak line that serves the very popular GAP and C&O trails. I definitely need to read this report for details, but the fact that bike spots are always sold out may contribute to the ranking
Exciting news for anyone who loves trains and bikes: we've just released our new Bicycle Friendly Trains report! See below for a preview to find out which routes earned top marks and which have the most room for improvement, and then read the full report at bikeleague.org/amtrak-report 🔗

Experts say Pittsburgh-area rivers healthier than ever but there’s still work to do
The rivers of Western Pennsylvania have a rich yet troubled history. After years of acid mine drains, sewage leaks and environmental contamination, the region’s rivers have become habitable again thanks to the combined impact of federal legislation and local ecologists. Today, anglers flock to the water’s edge to catch carp

Oh...wow
GB News go on air every day and make out like climate change isn't happening. Then, when a wildfire breaks out in the UK, they scramble for anything to blame – anything BUT the massive climate elephant in the room 🐘🙈🙈🙈 1/2 #suffolkwildfire
Living the Dutch Dream in #Pittsburgh. #NetherlandsWho? #OpenStreetsPGH
Nearly got myself killed seconds before this but it was so nice seeing this freight train running long hood forward! 🤩🤩 Also I hate Federal Street Parking, and folks who can't Park trying to park there, this fouling up the bike lane!
It's also illegal to be in the park/mall/arcade/other fun space without your parents, by the way

Oh! People actually bike in the city of #Pittsburgh? I thought it was too hilly/cold/hot/humid etc to do that!
To clarify, the driver that was being tailgated, then was threatened as the tailgater stepped out of the car, was the one that shot and killed the tailgater. So it was considered self defense...according to the driver and passenger. Still awful though...road rage 101 is to stay in your car...
The driver who fired fatal shots following a road rage incident last week will not face criminal charges, the Hancock County Prosecutor's Office announced. 🔗 https://tinyurl.com/r46spbw3
To the LGBTQ+ community of Berlin, Pittsburgh's LGBTQ+ community stands with you.
Oooh finally a coffee shop that's open late, daily, without having to climb the hills to Oakland! I discovered Afters Cafe due to #OpenStreetsPGH, happening now!
Being a transplant to MoCo MD is fine. Welcome. It's good to be a place people want to move to, vs away from.
Being a transplant to D.C. comes with tells you may not even realize, Malachi Byrd writes for our Ask a D.C. Native column. Here's what he notices:
Researchers have repeatedly shown that bike lanes, automatic enforcement, and road diets save lives. The safety impact of AVs are far more speculative. Do AV boosters genuinely care about safety? Or is it just a useful talking point?
Waymo AVs may be safer than human operated vehicles, but traffic calming, enforcement, and separated bike/pedestrian interstate saves more life lives in more places. #trafficsafety
When I see "Waymo saves lives" op-eds, I always do a quick search to see what the author has written extolling protected bike lanes. Or automatic speed cameras. Or road diets. The results are always the same: Nope. Nada. Zilch.
I'll miss the Original Pittsburgh Winery. A fond memory I have is when they hosted the meeting for Traffic Calming in Penn Ave. Even Mayor Gainey was there! It had its drama when someone threw a leg cast/support at the leader of the opposition! I wish the owners well. triblive.com/aande/music/...

McKnight Road is just so incredibly terrible as a pedestrian and transit user...even as a driver! Personally I avoid going up there as the transit and walking experience is awful. How many more deaths will we have to witness before this corridor is made to be safer? www.wpxi.com/news/local/c...

I'm curious to see how this goes. I support this. I do also wonder about why do many kids are meeting up to fight in various places.

"Freedom of Movement" should be the name of a campaign. That's really what all this cycling/pedestrian/transit advocacy is about - the freedom to choose from a variety of options to move that works best for you, your family, and your community. It's refreshing to see a Congressperson understand that

I support leadership that knows what our streets are like by actually being in them. I'll never support candidates who are shielded from the reality of the people. This is great to see!

Are there any Caribbean countries actually investing in significant Bike/Pedestrian infrastructure outside of city centers? At least Jamaica has the JUTC, but I wish it were more bikeable/walkable. The weather is marvelous for this type of transport!
The population of Trinidad and Tobago is too sedentary, and we're plagued with chronic NCDs. We really need to be more active and walk instead of driving everywhere! Good advice from the government, and here's a sidewalk in the capital city! #PoliticalWill #LeadershipMatters #EndCarDependency
This is sick. What is even the benefit of voting against this declaration? That human lives don't matter? Even car manufacturers are spending billions to improve safety features to minimize road deaths...
Only one country voted against a UN declaration to reduce crash deaths. Want to guess which one? Info: www.linkedin.com/posts/overwh...
This is horrifying. I'd be devastated to lose my bike 😔
