Daughter of the Raven

A bundle of anachronistic non-sequiturs. She/her. I am an enigma even to myself. Happily under-babied.

Motherfuckbuckets, this is giving me feels. I absolutely love this one. The combination of the time theme and the decades of everything feeling like it's getting more difficult, just super powerful. His rough around the edges delivery is so perfect for this.

Why can’t we have a decent life working 40-50 hours a week? As soon as you figure out a way to make a dollar more, they’re going to take it away from you.

Today is the anniversary of the infamous 1871 Chicago fire, as many as 300 dead. But it’s also the anniversary of the less famous Peshtigo, Wisc., fire, also in 1871, with as many as 2,500 dead. People jumped into the Peshtigo River to try to survive the 3-day fire that covered 1,875 square miles.

Still the deadliest wildfire in U.S. history: the Oct 8, 1871, Peshtigo, Wisc., fire killed as many as 2,500. Same day as Chicago fire, but with many more deaths and no cow to blame. Slash-and-burn land management resulted in too much burn. A museum and graveyard for the victims stands in town.

Marker for the Peshtigo, Wisc., fire, Oct. 8, 1871. It reads:

The city reborn from ashes of America’s most disastrous forest time.

This bridge crosses the river that has been the heart of the community since the founding of Peshtigo.

This river provides power for our commerce and daily lives.

This river also protected some of our citizens who sought refuge in these waters during the great fire of Oct. 8th, 1871.

The citizens of Peshtigo dedicate the bridge over the River on honor of those who have served and defended our country and those who protected, defended and rebuilt our community.

”From the embers of ruined hope, may the germs of virtuous industry spring, while
nature in tears, weeping over the blackened funeral pile, shall plant, as the seasons
come and go, fresh roses of Spring o'er the ashes of the dead.”

The increasing racism, calls for violence, and efforts to suppress and corrupt the vote are horrific and indicative of growing GOP panic, but also exactly why the GOP needs to be crushed at the polls.

We've seen what Trump's government coming to the "rescue" looks like. It ended with two Minnesotans shot dead by federal agents, racial profiling, assaults, and the violation of our rights. Never again. If Trump tries, I'll drag him back to court.

Trump tries to start a race war: "The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants ... The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back!"

COULD SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT PEOPLE MEAN WHEN THEY SAY "THE ELITES"? DO THEY MEAN RICH PEOPLE? EDUCATED PEOPLE? PEOPLE WITH WHITE COLLAR JOBS? PEOPLE WHO LIKE OPERA? Seriously, stop using this term without defining it.

AH HA HA HA HA HA HA 🤣 nope. You and your colleagues built this. Lawyers don't trust this court anymore, even many who used to be fellow "originalists." Touch some grass. Alito says Supreme Court can’t stem emergency appeals and voices concern over Trump’s rhetoric apnews.com/article/alit...

Alito says Supreme Court can’t stem emergency appeals and voices concern over Trump’s rhetoric

Some of President Donald Trump's rhetoric about members of the Supreme Court isn't sitting well with one of his favorite justices.

There’s this tremendous distance between this torrent of news of the most evil shit you ever imagined and the ordinary grace, fortitude, delight of normal people just trying to live their lives

Do you know why I think every prisoner should get to vote in prison? Not only are prisoners counted in the census and are most affected by policies (check out prison gerrymandering), but also if you don't, regimes could simply round up 1,000s of dissidents and minorities to reshape the electorate

What a lie. Some of these people are being imprisoned indefinitely in squalid condition in African prisons. Others report being beaten and arbitrarily deported in violation of international law back to their home countries, where they face persecution or torture.

The indefinite nature of their confinement has taken a severe toll. In October 2025, a Cuban man who was on the July flight went on a hunger strike for a month-until he started showing signs of organ failure —to protest the conditions of his detention, including his ongoing confinement and lack of access to legal counsel.
Terrified of being imprisoned in Eswatini forever, another man repeatedly told his attorney that the prison there never lets people go. One man told his attorney that he feels like a caged animal with no end in sight. The prison does not have air conditioning, making the hot, humid summer months especially uncomfortable for the men.
Food is insufficient, medication is scarce, and requests often go unmet or are belatedly met.

Blanche on the Trump administration deporting people to third countries where they have no connection: "This idea that we're violating human rights and the president and US is doing something to damage and put these people in harm's way is just categorically false"
