Louis@louisevans.bsky.social · 5h agoit's kinda wild that the obscure knowledge contest as a social practice has survived essentially unchanged—Jeopardy is still on the air, bar trivia is still practiced everywhere—into the age of google, wikipedia, and smartphones.
So having just logged back into this site after a hiatus my immediate observation is that it kicks ass now. The dumb infighting seems to have mostly shaken out and now it's funny, has actual information on it, etc.

I accidentally did a saccade to a car driver on my bike the other day she was stopped at a sign, looking left and right, and I was fully in the middle of the intersection, wearing bright red, travelling contra her head turn and when she started to move I realized she genuinely had not seen me

I am sympathetic to people who dream of a less complex life was fixing some bolt on my car's suspension, so I took a video of it driving with the 360 camera, and now to view the 360 video I have to set up an insta360 account, and then I forgot my apple account password, and then... like Inception
by way of the delta in my two skillsets my tech job is wayyy easier and comfier than my woodworking hobby I get to sit in a nice office and make entire worlds by clicking a lil mouse around? lately it does a ton of the tedious parts for me? heck yeah wake me up when robots can do all the sanding

also, re: voting I'll just book everyone? there's no one 'winner' here whoever wants to come on can come on. that's always been the deal. there are unlimited timeslots
I do not need and couldn't even fit or use the brutalist aluminum derailleur but LOOK AT IT
