California Knucklehead Architect - AIA - The bicycle, the bicycle surely, should always be the vehicle of architects. It is the city hack that opens the door to great ideas. 🚲❤️

A prominent NIMBY org is now just tweeting out xenophobic nonsense blaming Chinese people for the housing shortage. Here are the San Diego County elected officials who continue ot endorse this group: Solana Beach Lesa Heebner – Mayor Jill MacDonald – Councilmember David Zito – Councilmember 🧵/2

Glad to see the old sign has been adopted and restored by an Arby's executive. In 2024 anti-development preservationists fought to preserve it in-situ on Hollywood Blvd. where the old Arby's had stood for 55 years. Had it stayed it would have been lost to neglect. www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

Why the iconic Hollywood Arby's sign from Sunset Boulevard was at Stagecoach

The Hollywood Arby's on Sunset closed in 2024, but its sign found a temporary home in the desert at the Stagecoach Music Festival over the weekend.

First biccies in San Diego! I’ve been patiently waiting for the first protected intersection in the region. I thought it was going to be on Santa Fe Dr in Encinitas but that council became anti-bike and redesigned. Then I thought it would be University @ 54th but that got delayed (will still happen)

At its heart, this is a story about sprawl and the lack of a public square in many cities and towns. Places with parks, plazas, and places people can access for free often have outdoor concerts, movie screenings, or just ways people can socialize and have fun without having to pay for it.

The Fun Shortage Is Real, and It’s Making America Miserable

With fewer places to relax and socialize, and steeper prices for entry, having fun is quantifiably harder than it used to be.

Probably the best example of a rapid bottom-up energy transition: Pakistan imported more Chinese solar last year than any country on earth. No big subsidy, no rooftop scheme, no feed-in tariff. Solar is now around a quarter of electricity. More in my piece👇 www.thenewworld.co.uk/jan-rosenow-...

Pakistan’s solar miracle – how the hell did they do it?

Faced with constant electricity blackouts and a failing grid, people in Pakistan took matters into their own hands. The result is a lesson for the rest of the world, and also a warning

Was hit by an SUV that pulled out of a gas station. Knocked me off my bike and bent derailleur ($200) along with some other damage. A cop stopped, looked at my bike and said “glad everyone is ok and we can all go”. Driver left while I talked with the cop and he told me to be more careful.

"All of this is a huge diversion of resources and deflection from the task at hand. As one of us likes to say, when you’re in a climate hole, stop digging … and burning fossil fuels. It really is, at some level, that simple."

It’s true, for all cars. There is an equation in existence that calculates the seconds you car journey removes from other people’s lives.

This DUI murder charge is the second time in a decade I’ve seen a driver charged after killing a cyclist. The bar is so high that a person needs multiple DUIs and documented warnings from the court to merit such a charge. keyt.com/news/ventura...

Thinking about my good friend and bicycle advocate who moved to another city many years ago. At the time he said, “San Diego is never going to grow up and I want to live in a real bicycle city.”
