@gregmartinsd.bsky.social · 3w agoWhile I favor the fare increase, there's a huge difference in how elected officials respond to people that drive versus those that use transit. People that drive to Balboa Park get to keep all of the parking and pay nothing while those using transit will pay more and possibly get less service.

First biccies in San Diego! I’ve been patiently waiting for the first protected intersection in the region. I thought it was going to be on Santa Fe Dr in Encinitas but that council became anti-bike and redesigned. Then I thought it would be University @ 54th but that got delayed (will still happen)
At its heart, this is a story about sprawl and the lack of a public square in many cities and towns. Places with parks, plazas, and places people can access for free often have outdoor concerts, movie screenings, or just ways people can socialize and have fun without having to pay for it.

Was hit by an SUV that pulled out of a gas station. Knocked me off my bike and bent derailleur ($200) along with some other damage. A cop stopped, looked at my bike and said “glad everyone is ok and we can all go”. Driver left while I talked with the cop and he told me to be more careful.

A bombshell investigation in the New York Times goes deep into the ways that taller hoods and wider A-pillars in American SUV and pickup trucks both block drivers' ability to see people walking and inflict more deadly injuries when collisions occur. After significant statistical analysis, the authors conclude that at least 3,000 people killed between 2016 and 2024 would still be alive if only cars and trucks had remained the same size they were in the early 2000s.
