Highly recommend reading this thoughtful feature by @ferrisjabr.bsky.social as well his thread on the joys and challenges of native plant gardening. I also recommend reading Doug Tallamy's books and checking out his org Homegrown National Park.

For the @nytimes.com Magazine, I wrote about the increasingly fervent native plant movement; its esteemed guru, the entomologist and bestselling author Douglas Tallamy; and the complexities of ecologically responsible gardening in our modern era. Gift link 🎁 : www.nytimes.com/2026/07/07/m...

I had the honor of copyediting Stacey Patton's "Strung Up" from @beaconpress.bsky.social, to be published in October. This is a great promo for it. Looking forward to the conversation about this excellent book and the devastating history it uncovers.

My good friend Dom has done a superb job charting the mammoth influence of ‘Trane, McCoy Tyner, and modal jazz on a lil outfit from the Bay Area.

I wrote a sort of long, potentially dull piece on the influence that John Coltrane’s early 1960s recordings had on the Grateful Dead (see also @bourgwick.bsky.social + the Deadcast, and, for show insights, heads.social/@mangroveval...; bunch of links herein) www.dominicumile.com/blog/john-co...

"One of the settlement options the Justice Department and White House officials are reviewing is the possibility of the I.R.S. dropping any audits of Mr. Trump, his family members or businesses, according to two of the people." IT'S ... A ... FUCKING ... SHAKEDOWN!!

Breaking News: The Justice Department is said to be considering settling a lawsuit President Trump filed against the IRS over the release of his tax returns.

RIP to former NBA player Jason Collins, the first openly Gay, active, male pro athlete. Hard to explain what a big deal it was in 2014 when Collins signed with the Nets. He took number 98 in tribute to Matthew Shepard, the Gay teen murdered in a horrific hate crime. JC was brave and will be missed.

Since our one precious world has avoided nuclear holocaust (at least for a few days), it would be great if news sites scrubbed their "Trump Threaten to 'Blow Up' Iran" headlines from landing pages. It's a bit triggering, no?

74% of Americans now say the government isn’t doing enough to regulate AI. They’re right. That’s why I introduced a moratorium bill - to give us time to address the risks and to ensure that this technology works for all of us, not just the billionaires who own it.

A gigantic record-breaking heat dome is baking the US and war is skyrocketing fuel prices and the cost of living. If only scientists and climate activists had warned us…. Oh wait they did.
