15 years ago I borrowed a bulletproof vest from a reporter so I could report from a war zone. I held onto it after I returned. Last week the reporter finally asked for it back because he is headed to Minneapolis.

I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Sometimes, we can't save a dying child and I accept that. But sometimes during a code where I believe the event is survivable, I think to myself "If I can't rescue this kid, I have to quit my job" anyway, it has made me extremely normal
