A dark mountain basin lies beneath a heavy ceiling of rain clouds, where low banks of fog drift through the forested valleys like cool air spilling over unseen ridges. The conifer forest forms a nearly black silhouette against the lighter sky, its jagged treeline emphasizing the softness of the mist that gathers among the trees.

The lake is almost perfectly still, reflecting the clouds, mountains, and forest with only a few faint ripples spreading across the surface. In monochrome, the scene becomes a study of light and shadow: bright openings in the cloud deck illuminate patches of water while the mountains remain subdued, creating depth through contrast rather than color.

So I showed up to this bridge in Shanghai for light trails and ran into a squad of local Chinese uncles, some sporting "Beijing bras", rocking massive, pro-grade tripods like the veterans they are. Traveling light means I don’t have room for that luxury.

So, I dropped into an Asian squat (nailed it now) right in the middle of them and whipped out my tackle, a mini tripod. Cue a round of laughter at my setup (all in good jest, of course). Kneeling and thoroughly emasculated, I pushed through the peer pressure to get this shot while everyone literally looked down on me! 😂
