Hopping back on the #MolluscMonday train today with a Diamond squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus). This species is likely monogamous, a super rare trait in squids. Reference image credit: Magnus Lundgren #MolluskMonday #SquidArt #InvertArt

This is also for a Made in Your Community card, this time for Angela's sea stars! The scans you see under my art are scans she took of her animals, an amazing view to see and draw from. In collaboration with @dreamsofascientist and @angelajordanee #marinebiology #sciart #science #art #starfish
Smelt time! This piece is for the Made In Your Community project — a collaboration with @dreamsofascientist. It was created to share Z Zenobia's science (@somethingspiffy) about smelt on cards she distributed in Arcata, CA. Found one? Let us know! #smelt #ocean #science #art #marinebiology
I made this art for Haley, a deep-sea biologist—celebrating diel vertical migration! If you're in Santa Barbara, see if you can find one our cards highlighting her and her science! @dreamsofascientist #SciArt #DeepSea #DielVerticalMigration #MarineBiology #SantaBarbara #MadeInYourCommunity
We’re combining science and art into double-sided cards featuring local scientists and leaving them at local coffee shops and breweries. Want to be featured or nominate a scientist? Fill out this interest survey by Sept 28th: forms.gle/CsTDjisunDMo...
For #cephalopodweek we are jumping into scientific paths, featuring @cephalopodanetwork.bsky.social and @bridgetsquidget.bsky.social Remember it’s never too late to discover something new! #dreamsofascientist #scientificjourney #sciencecommunication #sciencestory #marinescience #octopus #squid
We have a new project: Made in Your Community! With support from @skypeascientist.bsky.social , we’re creating beautiful double-sided cards that feature local scientists and their work — all placed in local cafes, breweries, and community spaces. #SciComm #RepresentationMatters #ArtandScience
We're looking for scientists to feature on our next cards! If you're interested, please go to the website and fill out the form
Our Made in Your Community project has been co-created by @vangeliqueallen.bsky.social and @bridgetsquidget.bsky.social , who is also one of the illustrators behind the double-sided cards. You can learn more about our initiative on our website: www.dreamsofascientist.com/made-in-your...
The 2025 advent calendar will drop tomorrow at 10am!!! The artist? @ehrenenglish.bsky.social The animal? EELS. Here's the sneakiest of sneak peeks 👀
Happy (or at least paused despair?) #MolluscMonday! This species shows some extreme sexual dimorphism. Not only is the gorgeous webbing (blanket) only found in females, but the males are teeny tiny. Inspired by pcaiger's Robson's blanket octopus observation on inaturalist. #MolluskMonday #sciart
I look more and more like this crab every day. Repost of a painting I did of the little baby king crab NOAA found back in January
Well, things are worse. In honor of Japanese crab day, I invite you to post crab friends for morale! I'll add them to the crab feed as I see them 🦀 I'll restart posting the A-Z thread for my contribution, and perhaps some extra for today. For now, A is for Aegla bsky.app/profile/did:...
Absolutely stunning video of a Antarctic gonate squid captured during an expedition aboard the R/V Falkor (Too). It's never been seen alive before! Read more in the New York Times: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/11/s... Video: ROV SuBastian/Schmidt Ocean Institute, courtesy of National Geographic 🦑🌊🧪
Happy summer solstice! Since we're celebrating the sun, it seems like a good time for an ocean sunfish! Like us, they like to bask in the sun after a cold dive to warm up ☀️ 🐟 #fishyfriday #drawntosummer25 #oceanart #solstice
Here is the feed for #FishyFriday ! Use the tag to get a flood of fish/ #aquatic themed creatures in the feed every Friday. No rules or prompts, just #art and #photography you’d like to share. Thanks for joining in today and sharing your lovely #fish 🥰 bsky.app/profile/did:...
I'm on PST so this still counts for #MolluscMonday, right? (right?!?) Meet the smooth giant clam (Tridacna derasa) 🐚✨ It's name is a bit misleading as it still has plenty of texture, just not quite as much as its cousin, the giant clam (T. gigas). #MolluskMonday #oceanart #artyear
Happy Friday the 13th! It's not Halloween but it is spooky so here's a painted wooly bat 🦇 ❤️ Reminder to not buy taxidermied ones online - they aren't bred in captivity so all those specimens are wild-caught. Removing that many from the population isn't sustainable. #art #bat #artoftheday #nature
Reminder: sci-comm and outreach costs money, and it’s being defunded across all STEM fields. It’s not just something scientists “do” (or fail to do, or need to do more). I mean, most of us do “do” it on our own time too, but that will never be enough.
I see a lot of people talking about how "we just need to explain science more to the public". The state Space Grant programs (one issued in each state) does incredible deep and wide outreach work - supporting education at every age and stage, nurturing science interest.
Another frog! 🐸 this is another super fun study painted for the mentorship with @leeshahannigan.bsky.social. Thank you as always, for being the kindest and most patient mentor! 💙 Fell in love with this little friend and its cute colours! Reference in thread ⬇️
Happy #MolluscMonday! Today it's Cornu aspersum, the common garden snail. Seen any near you recently? #MolluscMonday #SciArt #ArtYear #NearbyNature2025
Don’t forget you can just go draw a bug whenever you want.
When the world gets too weird you can just go outside and look at bugs.
🚨 A new rule would let career scientists like NSF/NIH program officers be replaced by political appointees Already 14,000+ public comments, deadline is Friday 📣 Comments can be short. Courts consider them—and scientists with NSF/NIH experience are especially impactful Speak up! shorturl.at/WKuBj
Our chromosome-scale genome assembly of Nanomia septata, a siphonophore - doi.org/10.1101/2025... . Much larger than many other cnidarian genomes, fewer chromosomes, and highly rearranged. No smoking gun for how they achieve complex colony-level organization. Great work Namrata Ahuja and friends!
But until then, you have two assignments: 1. Keep being a scientist. 2. Be the biggest, most creative, most persistent pain in the ass Trump and his clown posse have ever experienced.
Loved seeing all this amazing art!!! You should definitely check it out (and you'll see a nudibranch made by me)
