2025 was raggedy in so many ways, but it also brought gifts, joy, and beautiful moments with my village. My 2026 word is alignment—reflecting on who I want to be in the next phase and creating better synchrony with my habits, routines, and goals. Wishing us all a better year ahead.

I met Victoria Gray, the first person treated with CRISPR. She once lived in constant pain, unable to walk or hold her daughter. Thanks to research, she went from using a walker to hiking a mountain. I’m so grateful for her bravery and the reminder of what science makes possible.

Earlier this year, I was the keynote for the UNCF STEM Scholars Meeting. Although there's lots to be angry about right now, it was powerful to share space with a room of bright-eyed future scientists and see that they're pushing forward and just as motivated as ever. It reminded me of my why.

Had such a great conversation with @phdgprotein86.bsky.social. It's always great to go down memory lane with @heydrdukes.bsky.social to the early days of @blackinneuro.bsky.social, but listening back also gave me a much-needed reminder of the power of community, especially right now.

Something good - Got to share space with one of the GOATs when I hosted @KafuiDzirasa a few weeks ago for our seminar series. Always the inspiration, even in this moment, the visit left me feeling motivated and energized to keep on keeping on.

All NIDA F31 diversity scholars officially losing their funding... I barely have words. Expected at this point but so so disappointing and unfair. We are effectively punishing some of America's best science students for telling the government they are from an underrepresented community.
