Arsenal fan, tech PR guy, and Twitter/X refugee. My employers have asked me to make it clear that they want *nothing* to do with any of the dull, tedious nonsense I say on here, as they are apparently “far too cool” for that sort of thing.

I do love World Cups. And I enjoyed this one. But it’s the one I’ve connected with least in all the years I can remember. Whether it’s the bloated format, the annoying middle of the night kick off times (which forced me to miss some great games), or the sheers levels of cringe…it’s not felt normal.

I think it’s fair to both say that a) England would have find a much better job than Argentina in tonight’s final and b) we also wouldn’t have stood an earthly chance against this Spanish side.

Actually feel sad looking at the World Cup trophy. It used to be a symbol of sporting excellence and achievement. Now it’s sullied by a lack of sporting integrity, bloat, and noise. I understand you have to move with the times. But surely it has to be for the right reasons?

On a separate note, this World Cup has shown us the folly in giving the US major tournaments to host. In the absence of culture or history, they substitute celebrity and noise and think it holds the same gravitas. All it does is shine a light on the complete lack of substance.

Paredes should have been sent off earlier in the game for persistent cynical fouling whilst on a yellow card. No surprise to see him act like an animal at the final whistle. Inferior in every respect.

I don’t think there is a better example of America’s decline as a cultural power than this World Cup. They think this bombastic desecration of the game is somehow impressive. The rest of the world just thinks they’re cunts

They missed a golden opportunity there to have Madonna race onto a Ronaldinho through ball and miss an open goal Diana Ross style in a homage to the 1994 opening ceremony, and I, for one, am disgusted.

I’m not saying it’s been a slow start to the game, but I’m already starting to wonder which of Madonna’s back catalogue of hits is going to make the cut, and…if Justin Bieber is going to borrow some of the ones that don’t.
