trying to come up with my own yamato design rn and it's honestly a good design challenge bc there's so much to consider. there's the time period, how much yakuza aesthetic should be in there, the obvious cultural influence, and trying to fit the harionago idea from the available concept art

yamato design breakdown 🧵! hair and face: the hair was the hardest part for me to figure out. i didn't want it to be too traditional, nor too non-descript that it lacks flair. there was also the consideration to incorporate masculine presentation. in the end, this was the compromise i landed on

HAIR Style - Shimada-style nihongami - Era-appropriate style for both men and women (1940s) The goal was to find the middle-ground between the past and tradition (Kaori) and the future (Yamato). Mizuhiki Knot I wanted to use the musubi-kiri style specifically, a knot that is hard to undo, and is specifically used during events that should "only happen once"-- like funerals. I felt this was appropriate given Yamato's relationship with her brother and the grief his death caused her. FACE Beni Traditional pigment used by Japanese women most commonly on the lips, but it is also used elsewhere on the face, like in the outermost corner of the eyes. It is believed that the color red represents vitality and passion, and in some cases, also warded off evil spirits. Yamato is supposed to present a bit more masculine, but the rest of the cast acknowledges her as a woman, so I felt like small details like a bit of beni around the eyes would add some contrasting flair without greatly feminizing the design.

Lembra que a Sony tentou enterrar Kpop Demon Hunters por migalha pq não encaixava na tal da planilha de projeção. Não era "o que o público quer". Fica calmo e faz sua arte. Celebra suas coisas, faz do jeito que vc gosta. Esse é o nosso poder.

Esse é o grande problema da IA. Esse é o grande problema de pra onde esse mercado tá indo. Sabe esse monte de remake? Ninguém aguenta mais - pq foi tudo feito baseado em planilha e projeção de lucro. Não é assim que se faz arte boa.

Galera, segura minha mão Sente: Fazer arte baseado em estatística e número de mercado, o que "o público quer", é dirigir olhando só pro retrovisor. Quem sabe fazer arte é o artista, não o público. Se o público soubesse o que ele quer, ele mesmo faria a arte.
