Bit of background, this is the result of reinterpreting the legal definitely of "harm" in the Endangered Species Act to exclude habitat modification (destruction). By this logic, if someone sets your house on fire, they have not harmed you.

If Platner wants to help the causes he says he believes in, and also demonstrate that he has perhaps begun to change his ways, stepping down right now would be a pretty obvious move.
